Born in Northampton, Feb. 12, 1948, he was the son of the late George E. Weeks Jr. and Irene (Callander ) Weeks. He graduated from Smith Academy and attended Greenfield Community College.

In 1968, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army for one tour of duty in Vietnam. Greg served in the 1/18 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, and was discharged as a staff sergeant with numerous awards including the Bronze Star.

When he returned, he married his true love "Bonnie" Slysz and went to work in a machine shop as quality control manager making parts for the U.S. government. He was most proud of starting the DARE program in Hatfield Elementary School, which he ran from 1989 to 2005. During that time, the DARE program ran many events out of the old Milk School, including Halloween scare nights, whale-watching trips, baseball games and even a summer camp for the kids.

He leaves his loving wife of 46 years Maureen "Bonnie" (Slysz) Weeks; his sister Margaret Weeks Thomas and her husband Pat of Middleboro; his brother George Weeks III and his wife Terri of Belmont, New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews; his godchild; and his cat Smokey.

An in-house service will be held Friday at 10 am at the Czelusniak Funeral Home in Northampton. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Hatfield.

I am so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. Mom told me the other day. You were both friendly faces in the neighborhood. Many thanks to him for his service as an officer in town. And I know you had to sacrifice time with him so that he could do what he did to help the community.

I have many great memories of Sgt. Weeks...there were countless nights spent at the D.A.R.E. Center, a trip to a minor-league baseball game, a whale watching trip in Boston harbor, every D.A.R.E. class, and all of his surprise visits. Every interaction I had with Sgt. Weeks was a positive one - even if I was in trouble at the time and was angry about getting caught - I can look back now and feel good knowing that he helped set me right. The love he had for the town of Hatfield and the kids who called it home was plain to see, he truly was an asset to our community and will be missed.

Didn't we have fun with DARE! Sgt Weeks couldn't do enough for his kids. He was really wonderful to his 6th grade teachers too. Remembering all the fun, the DARE banquets, the field trips, the DARE paraphernalia... Can't imagine teaching 6th grade at Breor without him. Some people say evidence showed DARE programs didn't work. Whenever I heard that I thought, they didn't know Sgt. Week's program. He built relationships and relationships always matter. Prayers for Bonnie and all his family. Deep loss. Peace Greg, Peace Out. Thank you for all you did for our kids.

So incredibly sad to hear the news of Sgt. Weeks passing. He truly was an amazing man. He had a special connection with us kids building friendships, trust and respect while making a big impact on our lives...something I think is rare. I know he had a special place in all our hearts, he certainly did mine. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. R.I.P. "Sarg" <3

Thoughts and prayers with the family. Lt. Weeks, a loving kind father figure to many and a mentor to most who in the 90's was always looking out for the youth of hatfield, he was a dedicated police man but I remember my DARE classes that were taught and a place to go and be safe the teen center which Lt. Weeks poured his heart and soul into, it was a pleasure to know such a great man. RIP.

Sgt. Weeks was a wonderful and a genuinely caring person who truly loved all of the kids that he worked with! He created alternatives to just hanging out for the youth of Hatfield from the creation of the Teen Center to trips to the bowling alley and Interskate 91! He spent so much of his free time giving to the community! Sgt. Weeks was funny, selfless, and a pillar of our small town! He will be sorely missed.

During a D.A.R.E session is 6th grade he asked everyone if they wanted to volunteer. Everyone, of course, raised their hands in excitement. He pulled out a trash bag and said, "Here, go pick up all the trash on the playground." The lesson was to never volunteer for anything unless you fully knew what you were getting into. A classic D.A.R.E lesson I will remember forever. I hope Sgt. Weeks knew of the positive impact me had on all of our lives before he passed. I never knew his background besides what he did for the town of Hatfield. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of such a great man.

I am so incredibly sad over the loss of this man. Sgt. Weeks was literally THE town cop in my tiny hometown of Hatfield. He was always there - Sort of a local installment. I'll never forget the nickname he gave me in 6th grade: Jabber Jaws. He still called me that, even as an adult. We stayed in touch on Facebook, and in all the correspondence I had with him over the years, he still called me by that name. His D.A.R.E. Program was really fun and memorable when I was a kid. And I vividly recall many a Friday night was spent at the DARE Teen Center, which he ran. He always teased me and made me laugh. What this man did for Hatfield in the years he served is outstanding. He will be missed by many, and forgotten by none. Rest in Peace, Sgt. Greg Weeks. My love and prayers are with your family.
