Our angel in life, Danya Michelle Spiess, passed away tragically Sunday, January 11, 2015, at her home in Fruita. She was 37 years of age.
Danya was born March 6, 1977, to Dennis and Ramona Darlene Norris in Littleton, Colorado. Danya pursued a variety of careers including insurance sales, cosmetology, show jumping, and finally settled into her calling, veterinary medicine. She attended Bel Rea Institute of Animal Technology and earned her Certified Veterinary Technician in 2009. After working in the dentistry department at VCA Alameda East in Denver, she followed her heart back to western Colorado, and also followed a boy named Steve Spiess.
Danya and Steve settled in Montrose, Colorado and were married June 9, 2012. They spent every second they could hiking, biking, camping, and riding horses. Danya had a particular love for the San Juan Mountains, which will forever hold her memory. Danya was embraced by her current workplace, Tiara Rado Animal Hospital, and was considered family by everyone she worked with.
With her gentle smile and willingness to help, Danya was truly loved by all. She had that rare talent to bring calmness and strength to situations that would defeat most of us. If ever a friend was needed, Danya could be counted on to be there.
What cannot be replaced will be remembered and loved forever.
Danya is survived by her husband, Steve; son, Tristan Crowson and daughter, Dakoata Crowson of Castle Rock, Colorado; father, Dennis (Ramona Darlene) Norris of Littleton, Colorado; brother, Michael Lee of Sterling, Colorado; sister, Kathy Lee (Lawrence Jacobs) of Somerset, Colorado; sister, Cindy Lee Eliasen (Phillip) of San Antonio, Texas, and many other extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Francis (Dorothy) Norris and Roy (Mary) Stevenson.
Danya's memorial service will be held at Redlands Community Center, 2463 Broadway, Grand Junction, CO 81507, on Saturday, January 31st at 10:00 a.m.
