David Gallegos Obituary

David Gallegos, Sr.

April 16, 1936 - August 8, 2021

David Gallegos, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the age of 85, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was born April 16, 1936, in Mt. Harris, Colorado, to Valentine and Ruth Gallegos. He was raised by his grandparents, Julian and Amalia Gallegos, in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he graduated from Grand Junction High School. While in high school he excelled in wrestling. He went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree from Weber State University.

Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he met his wife, Patricia.

He leaves behind wife, Patricia Gallegos; children, David Gallegos, Jr., Melinda Garcia (Abel), Kelley Mullen, and Christina Wedberg (Edwin); grandchildren, Jessica Minero, Selena Minoletti, Jennice Minero, Anthony Garcia, Amanda Garcia, Trevor Mullen, Lukas Wedberg, and Basie Wedberg, along with numerous great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by parents, Valentine and Ruth; grandparents, Julian and Amalia Gallegos; brothers and sisters, Herman Gallegos, Stella Gallegos, Edemia Gallegos, Josie Hyre, Jose Samuel Gallegos, and Walter Gallegos and is survived by sisters and brothers, Romelia Lewis, Barbara Castillo, Marye Lucero, Gary Gallegos, Roy Gallegos, Gene Gallegos, Joe Gallegos, Eva Fruit, and Sarah Nolan. He was a good man, a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved all of his family.

Mr. G was world renowned for his skill in telling it like it is, whether you wanted his advice or not. He knew a heck of a lot about everything and oh, was he funny! He could tell a joke or a funny story like nobody else, with wit and a wry, sarcastic sense of humor.

David loved fishing and hunting and took down many a big buck and rainbow trout. He loved bowling, golfing, and played a mean game of 8- ball pool. He stayed active all his life and was always good company. He will be profoundly missed.

There will be a viewing Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary from 5 - 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary from 7 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Monday, August 30, 2021, at 11:00 followed by a reception at Long Park (Mt. Garfield shelter, off of Patterson) at 12:30, with the burial at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.

I am saddened to learn of my brother Dave's passing. He fought the good fight until the end. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences go to the family. Dave was a wonderful brother and I will never forget his mischievous smile and his wry sense of humor. Dave had a remarkable memory and always knew something about anything. We often called him "professor". I will always cherish the moments we spent together. I will miss him dearly. With loving memories, may he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Uncle Dave´s family. I remember when Uncle Dave mustered out of the Air Force and came to stay with us in Clearfield. He always had a roll of Certs in his pocket and when I asked him for one, he´d give me the entire roll and I´d think that was the best thing. He was very proud of his military service and when I enlisted he´d tell me I´d made a solid decision. Uncle Dave was a good man.
