MASON CITY | Christopher Joseph McCabe, age 53, of Mason City, formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, with the Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton.
Friends may greet the family 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Christopher Joseph McCabe was born Aug. 18, 1960, in Jefferson, the son of Thomas and Barbara (Knobbe) McCabe. He received his education in New Hampton and was a 1978 graduate of the New Hampton High School. He attended the University of Iowa for four years and then began working as a parts manager for the LaFrenz Ford Dealership in Mason City. He later worked for PTI, a subcontractor for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Chris loved fishing, hunting, cooking and visiting with friends. He was known as a musky fisherman and was the president of the Heartland Chapter Musky, Inc. He also loved coming to New Hampton and spending time with the family and their pets.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara of New Hampton; three sisters, Maureen Valley of Leslie, Mo., Margaret McCabe of Owatonna, Minn., Colleen McCabe of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Maurice McCabe of Owatonna, Minn.; a niece, Brittany Lightfoot; a nephew, Bernie Lightfoot, both of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas McCabe on April 30, 2008.
