Marcella Flaten Obituary

KLEMME - Marcella "Marcy" E. Flaten, 84, of Klemme, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services for Marcella will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme with Pastor Donna Buckman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Andrews Funeral Home, 528 E. Main St., Klemme. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church Friday.
Marcella Eugene Flaten was born in Trail County, N.D., to Amanda (Norgaard) and Lewis Sletten on March 24, 1926. She received her education in the rural schools of North Dakota. She was bilingual and was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Marcella was baptized and confirmed at the Little Forks Church in Hatton, N.D.
On June 9, 1943, she wed Ardell Flaten and became a prairie farmer's wife. To this union four children were born.
The family moved to Iowa in 1959, first to Rudd and then in 1961 to Klemme.
Of the jobs that Marcy had throughout her life, the fondest memories are those of the Triangle Cafe, accounting for Dad with Flaten Construction, and her many children in a long child-care career of 32 years.
Marcella also worked at Bueller's Cafe in Mason City, Korleski's Grocery in Klemme and at the Klemme Golf Course. She was also a great lefse maker.
Before passing away she handed down her recipes to her granddaughter. She also loved to play the piano and yodel.
A good garage sale, picnics with family at Indian Lake and canning time in the fall were some of her most favorite things to do and share with others.
Marcella is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ardell of Klemme; children, Richard of Klemme, Roger (Barb) of Britt, Susan Johnson (George) of Mason City and Wayne (Jan) of Garner; sisters, Marion and Dorthy; brothers, Marvin, Elroy and Franklin; and 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, two brothers and many dear friends and family members.

Ardie & Family:
I remember all the visits I would make to your house with my dad and Marcy, no matter what she was busy doing, always took time to entertain me (or however many of us kids tagged along with dad!) and she had so much love and happiness to share. She also was an awesome cook! Keep all the happy and fond memories alive within you. My thoughts and prays are with all of you during this difficult time.

Marcy's laughter will truly be missed. Many fond memories of her sitting at Grandma Alice's and talking Norwegian stuff. I'm sure Grandma and Marie went to meet her at the gates and have shared an "uff-da" or two already. Our sincere sympathy and prayers to her family. Diane and Curt Stadtlander

Papa,
I loved Marcy and I'm terribly sorry all this has happened. My prayers go out to you and your family. She will be missed by many. I remember dancing in the kitchen to "This Kiss" whenever it came on the radio with her, and eating all those delicious sweet and red pickles. She was the best wife to you and also the best and my favorite babysitter I have ever had. I will miss her greatly. She will always have a huge impact on my life, and a large part of my heart.
With all my love,
