ROBERT MARTIN "MARTY" WOLF
NEWFIELD - Robert Martin "Marty" Wolf, 65, passed away on November 15, 2008, at his home in Newfield, NY, of natural causes.
He is survived by his long-term partner of 30 years, Charles Treat; and his sister and her husband, Freda and Victor Romero of Lima, Peru; and two nephews, Andres Romero-Wolf and Robert Martin Romero-Wolf.
He was born in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Fred W. Wolf, inventor of the domestic refrigerator, and Robbie Martin Wolf. He had lived in Texas and Florida and completed his high school education at the American School in Switzerland. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tulane University and had served in the Peace Corps in Chad.
He was very talented in the fine arts and received an MFA in writing poetry from Columbia University. He was a painter, having studied with the American impressionist painter, Theodore Stamos and participated in many art shows locally in Corning and Ithaca. He loved music and was an accomplished guitar player.
For several years he edited the magazine "Pursuit" founded by Ivan T. Sanderson. In the 1970's he investigated unexplained phenomena, including cattle mutilations and unidentified flying objects.
He was a keen observer of nature and a devoted friend to animals. Wolf Treat Farm in Newfield was established as a safe haven no hunting zone.
He is sadly missed by numerous friends locally and worldwide and will be fondly remembered for his sparkling personality and fey sense of humor.
No services were held. Friends may make memorial contributions to the American Anti-Vivisection Society, 801 Old York Rd., Suite 204, Jenkintown, PA 19046; or to a charity of their choice. Arrangements were by the Bangs Funeral Home.
