Edwardsville - Robert L. Dickerson, age 86, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at St. Louis University Hospital. He was born July 28, 1935, in McClure, Illinois, the son of the late Elmer Elvis & Marie (Waterman) Dickerson. Robert was retired from the City of Edwardsville Street Department where he worked as a laborer for many years.
He married the late Darlene F. Schwarz on May 2, 1959, in Edwardsville. Darlene preceded him in death on June 7, 2006.
Robert is survived by one son, Robert Eugene Dickerson of Belleville; three daughters, Peggy Sue VanLoo & husband Roger of Belleville, Patricia Ann Douglas of East Alton, Illinois, Beverly J. Laramie & husband Robert of Edwardsville; five grandchildren; Tim Baugher, Joshua & Nicholas Crouch, Devin & Alexx Laramie. Six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Wayne Dickerson; three brothers, Elvis, Franklin, & Mearl Dickerson; and one sister, Evelyn Johnson.
Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois. He loved gospel music, John Wayne movies and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Visitation was held from 12 p. to 1 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Maryville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the church with Dr. Tom Hufty officiating. Burial was at Bartlett Cemetery in Edwardsville.
