MARK LACKEY Obituary

DALLAS - Mark Hodge "Daddy" Lackey of Dallas lived a long and adventurous life for 96 years. Daddy passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2002. Mark was born in Sherwood, Texas, on Dec. 26, 1905, to James Earnest and Lena Lackey. Mark's life was worldly as civil engineering work took him to Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Peru, Puerto Rico and Bolivia. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, ranched in Mertzon, Texas, and Prescott, Ariz., and living in Bolivia, he met his loving wife Yolanda. He was instrumental in engineering major highway systems and constructing over 40 bridges that still serve. In Chile, he engineered one of the largest dams of its era. In Peru, he received his 33rd degree from the Peruvian Masonic Lodge, and assisted in the construction of the Pan American Highway. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Aubrey "Nan" DeLong. His wife, Yolanda and his four daughters and sons-in-law survive him, Joanne Priddy, Nona and O.B Orr, Nini and Jim McEwan and Diana and Mark Nightingale. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Alexa and Austin Nightingale, Jay Weatherby, Krista Wilson, Mitch and Jimmy Orr, Carrie Benton, Robert and Christopher McEwan; and great-grandchildren, Shane, Bobby, Shelby and McKenna Orr, Clayton and Tyler Wilson and Emily Weatherby. Pallbearers were Jim, Chris and Robert McEwan, O.B., Mitch and Jimmy Orr and Mark Nightingale. Services were held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas on Tuesday, June 25.
