Vernon Daley "Slats" Timm

SAN ANGELO Vernon Daley "Slats" Timm was born Nov. 7, 1936, and went victoriously to meet his Maker on Thursday, July 22, 2010, while relaxing in his favorite chair in his favorite place - his barn, waiting for one of his favorite friends to stop by for a visit. Having been at death's door at least twice he decided to live the life he loved and loved the life he lived. He was the "salt of the earth" kind of guy - hard-working and loved his family and friends. He left school before graduating to work and help support his parents and their eight children. He had several jobs as a young man, a ranch hand, filling station attendant, Monarch Tile and retired from Goodyear with 32 years service. His interests and loves were many. He loved life, his barn, riding horses, motorcycles, 4-wheelers, winning at washer pitching, listening to "Ole" George and Merle, dancing to good country music, working livestock, fixing anything broken, drinking beer with his buds, a good pool game, RV'ing, fishing, hunting, boating, having company stop by, helping anybody in need, everything outdoors (especially marveled at all God's nature and creation) and always felt blessed for all his many friendships. Those preceding him in death include his parents, Charles and Ida Timm; brother Milton; sisters Leona and Susie; stepson Jay Anderson; and mother of his children, Patty Jackson. Those left to celebrate his life are wife Lorna; son Bernie and Roxanne Timm; daughter Tyree Timm and Johnny McDonald; stepdaughter Michelle and Derek Logback; grandkids Josh and Genie Timm and soon-to-be born his first great-grandson, Ransom J, Scott and Shelly Timm; and stepgrandsons Hunter and Britton Logback; his siblings, Dorse and Karl Wilkinson, Ida Mae and Troy Smith, Charles and Betsy Timm and Henry and Juanita Timm; brothers-in-law Les and Skip Leuthaeuser and the Rev. Larry and Judy Leuthaeuser; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 26 in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Bob Budewig officiating. "He will be taking his last ride" to Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens for burial.
