Lawrence Scheidel Obituary

Scheidel, Lawrence "Larry" E. On Friday, October 16, 2020, I purchased a ticket on the train bound for eternity. My dear wife of over 68 years, Dorothy, left for eternity on this same train on November 1, 2013. We are now "Together Forever." We wanted to make this trip together but could not afford both tickets at that time. So we made a deal, she was to go first and prepare a place so we could spend eternity together. I was inducted into the Army Air Corp in July of 1943. I served stateside until January of 1947. I was stationed in Sioux Falls, SD, attending radio school to become a "Radio Operator/Gunner" on a B-17 aircraft. That is where I met Dorothy McKercher in April of 1944. A 73-year relationship developed from that meeting. Throughout that relationship we were blessed with our six wonderful children. They are all in relationships of their own now, beginning with Edward J. and Suzanne Scheidel, R. Dianne and Robert DeHaan, Karen A. and Jim Uhen, son-in-law, Thomas Sanok, Morris J. and Carol Scheidel, and Marty R. and Traci Scheidel. Springing from those wonderful relationships we now encompass a family of 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to that we have several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren. In addition to the passing of my wife, Dorothy, there are my parents Augie and Viola Scheidel; my sister, Patricia; my brother, Edward; my daughter, Charlotte A.; and my granddaughter, Sally Szubinski. After returning from the service, I found myself starting and quitting many jobs until I began a career at Lear Inc. in October of 1952. I rose from a line inspector to a tester/analyzer to a test equipment builder repairman to supervisor for 16 years and finally to quality engineering for my last 12 years there. I retired in March of 1987. I am sad that I must leave my friends and relatives, but I look forward to spending eternity with my sweetheart. We will do a lot of visiting and dancing with old friends and family. You can visit me one last time from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home - Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St., Dorr, MI 49323. A funeral celebrating my life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at CrossWind Community Church, 1683 142nd Ave., Dorr, MI 49323 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor George Grevenstuk will be officiating. My friends from the American Legion Post 127 in Dorr will perform military honors. I will be cremated after the funeral services. There will be no graveside services at this time. My ashes will be mixed with my sweetheart's ashes so we can continue our relationship for eternity. In my honor, contributions may be made to Post 127, American Legion Dorr or Faith Hospice. Now I'm gonna go find my sweetheart and maybe we will go dancing. Be sure to look us up when you get here. So long!
