Willard Ihde Obituary
Willard R. Ihde, 87, a lifelong resident of Green Bay, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his home. He was born July 1, 1926, in Green Bay to Richard and Clara (Erdmann) Ihde.
On November 19, 1949, he married Joan Vandeveld at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Green Bay. Willard had been employed by Florsheim Shoe Company at Stiefels Men's Store and later the White Store. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the occupation forces in Japan during WWII. Music was a large part of Willard's life. He played in the Last of the Big Bands, the Green Bay Packers Band, and the Green Bay City Band.
Willard is survived by his wife, Joan; three children and their spouses, Jean and Brian Fontaine, Green Bay; Tom Ihde, Social Circle, GA; Nancy and Mark Garlick, Eleva, WI; seven grandchildren, Joe (Kaelin) Fontaine, Betsy Fontaine; Ben and Sam Ihde; and David, John, and Tom Garlick.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Roland, and Roger Ihde; two sisters, Gladyce Doering and Virginia Krueger; his brothers-in-law, Joseph, Robert, Ralph, and Hubert Vandeveld; and a sister-in-law, Mary Van Beckum.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
