Clarence Williamson Obituary

WILLIAMSON JR., CLARENCE O.

August 15, 1946 - October 16, 2023

C.O. Williamson, Jr., EA, MBA, RFC

(August 15, 1946-October 17, 2023)

The 40th Anniversary of his 37th Birthday aka Age 77

Born in New York City to Clarence O'Berry Williamson Sr. & Ivy Rose Byron Williamson (later remarried as Ivy Rose Byron Yates to Lee Yates), C.O. Williamson Jr. as he preferred to be called was a loving member of both family and community.

C.O. entered the workforce in New York and New Jersey finding success with companies like Xerox, Merril Lynch, and the New York Stock Exchange. Education was an important and sustaining theme in his life. C.O. attended Temple School of Law in Philadelphia New York School of Finance in New York City ultimately earning his MBA from the Olin School of Business in the graduate school at Washington University. He completed this degree in 1986 and soon decided to return home to Greensboro not long after the passing of his grandmother, Stella Maude Wiggins Byron. He returned to his family church, St James Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully in multiple capacities financial and otherwise.

The Williamson Companies, more commonly known as TWC Financial remains a capstone of his legacy. C.O. became a Registered Financial Consultant awarded to him by the International Association of Financial Consultants, Inc., of which he was a chartered member. He ultimately would become an Enrolled Agent of the IRS which required not only an initial certification but 50-80 hours per year in continuing education, negotiating for, and representing clients in all manner of financial dealings including disputes with the IRS. TWC Financial provided training and opportunities including seasonal work in tax preparation for many people for decades until C.O. retired.

C.O.'s other great legacy was that of a dutiful son. He cared for both his mother and father, personally, and with great care until their passing. He loved his parents and all his family dearly and while he was never married or chose fatherhood, he was known to be very warm and caring towards children inside and outside his family. He had several godchildren and was often known for his generous support of his friends and their families through all phases of life. He enjoyed traveling and enjoyed great food. He loved good parties and music and hosting opportunities for people to enjoy both. He will be missed by his family members including the Willamson, Byron, Berkley families, and their extended families. In Lieu of flowers the families ask that donations be made to St. James Presbyterian Church 820 Ross Ave. Greensboro, NC 27406 with a memo earmarking it for a C.O. Williamson Memorial Fund to be created. Services will be held at S. James Presbyterian Church located at 820 Ross Avenue, 27406.

Sending prayers to the many family members and friends of C.O. some of whom I had the pleasure of meeting with Brenda Rhames at his holiday events! So much fun! He welcomed us in his home to stay overnight, sometimes when on our way To D.C. and others just to visit with his mother, Gladys, Lavern, church and many others. Such a good and kind human being! He will truly be missed. Blessings and much love to all who had an opportunity to meet and know C.O. Vera Harper, Decatur, Georgia

My friend, whom I often called COW (Clarence Oberry Williamson)

A man of generosity, who supported the young and the old. A man who gave so much from the depth of his generous soul.

A man who cared for his parents with love, honour, and humility. For him, it was not a burden, but rather a blessing he gave with dignity.

A man who considered himself a loner, yet the way in which he listened, engaged, and supported others, you never would have known it.

A man of pride, class and privilege who travelled from coast to coast, yet I´ve never known
him to boast.

A man who didn´t expect credit for the good he did but made a great impact within the world in which he lived.

If it were he telling this story, he would simply give God all the glory.

Well, it is time to say goodbye my friend,
as your life on this earth had to end.

But God has prepared a better place for your new life to begin. It is there that I look forward to seeing you again.

I met CO through Ms Ivy; a very special Lady.
I loved her. Since I was new to NC, I asked her if she knew who I needed to contact to do my Taxes as I was unfamiliar with the US system. Immediately she told me to talk to CO. CO?... who is CO?!
She told me to wait and that "he'd be home soon"....." you'll meet him".... ,"he knows everything"! And smiled. So we chatted until the CO came and Ms Ivy introduced us and said to CO, "you take care of her".... he smiled and said,..." if my Mother says to do it, I must do it"!! We all laughed. And that was that. Period.
CO was not my Tax expert, he was not my friend, he was not someone I never knew .....He, was my Brother!
He remained my Brother all these 25 years till he transitioned. I remember telling him the night before his passing that I was made to come here because had to find my Brother here in the US! Despite the fact we lived worlds apart,
I came from Australia and he is from the US.
I reminded him that he wouldn't be able to shake me off even if he tried! Our Souls journey on ....

CO, my Brother for Always, never far from me, forever etched in my heart.
I will always love you CO my Brother.
I bid you "Adieu sweet Prince" and not "Goodbye".... till we meet again.
Ps: Behave yourself!
