Virginia Leone Obituary

Leone, Virginia "Ginny"

Ginny Leone passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Originally from Glen Rock, N.J. Ginny died peacefully of lung disease holding hands with her husband, Mike, and their two sons, John and Chris. After being raised in New Jersey, she graduated from Skidmore College where she met her future husband Mike on a blind date in 1960. Ginny's first job was working in New York City as a model for Saks Fifth Avenue before marrying Mike in 1965 and moving to Philadelphia. Thus began their almost 58-year journey together, which included working as a Medical Alliance Officer Pa.; Head Start teacher Conn.; University of Vermont Art department assistant; and while Mike was in the Army Ala. organizing a summer camp for disabled children.

After settling in Greensboro in 1974, Ginny taught art at Our Lady of Grace school, which she was very passionate about. In addition, she served as Chair on the boards of Parks and Rec and Greensboro Beautiful, was president of the Guilford County Horticultural Society, and most recently volunteered at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Above all else, Ginny loved her seven grandkids: Anna, Katie, Michael, Jackson, James, Savannah, and Brooke who nicknamed her "Grinny." Whether it was traveling to visit them, playing games and spearheading activities, organizing family vacations, attending sporting events, or hosting "Grinny and Papa Camp"- Grinny was an astonishingly involved and amazing grandmother. Her wit, funny sarcasm and sense of adventure truly shined greatest when she was with them. Mike, John, Chris, wife Cris Mary and all the grandkids along with her many friends will sorely miss her.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in honor to the Leone Family Scholarship at Grimsley High School, Grimsley Alumni Association P.O. Box 4241 Greensboro, NC, 27404.

Mike,
I'm sorry to read of Ginni's death. I had known of her but had not met here until a few months ago. I was very impressed and touched by the humanist of her comments. She was clearly a very sensitive and giving person. I hope you are doing well.

Mike, Walker and I are so sorry that Ginny has died. We enjoyed so much being with you two on the trip to New Zealand and Australia. I particularly will always think of Ginny on St. Patrick's Day, remembering our book club lunch with her at your house. She was a very special person and many in Greensboro will surely miss her. We are sorry for your and your family's loss.

I remember Ginny when her mom, Betty Rasmussen, lived at Heritage Greens. My mom, Olive Cox, lived there, also. We took our moms out for lunch. Such a kind lady. My condolences to all her family. Maureen Burns

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to the entire family. We did not get to know Ginny but knew Mike and that is enough to let us know the type of person that she was. With deepest sympathy, Sue and Neil Lutins
