Ben Griffin Obituary

Ben Langdon Griffin, of 100 Griffin Mill Road, died Thursday, June 26, 2008.

Born September 23, 1917 in Easley, he was the son of the late Robert Terry and Mary Ella Ragsdale Griffin. Langdon was a 1937 graduate of Easley High School, where he was a member of the 1937 Green Wave Champion State Football Team and inducted into the Easley High School Hall of Fame. He attended Carlisle Military Academy.

Mr. Griffin received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University in 1944. After graduation, he was the manager at Hart Valley Ranch in River Falls, which was a well known 4,000 acre ranch. He retired after a long career as a teacher in the Greenville County School System.
He was a long-time member of Augusta Road Ruritan Club.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Moon Griffin of Moonville; two daughters, Bennie Griffin Blakely and husband, Terry Sr., of Moonville and Gail Griffin Richardson and husband, Dr. Jim F. Richardson, of Fountain Inn; one sister, Nan Griffin Williams of Easley; two grandchildren, Tab Blakely and his wife, Cynthia, of Greenwood and Shannon Langdon Blakely of Moonville; two great-grandchildren, Annie Griffin Blakely and Trace Blakely; and faithful friends Roosevelt Harris and Steve Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the mortuary.
