Charles Kirkland

Simpsonville

Charles Denver Kirkland, age 86, husband of Jean Futch Kirkland, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.

Born in Toombs County, Georgia, he was a son of the late Ernest Everett and Kitty Pearl Grimes Kirkland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Kirkland earned his Bachelor's degree from Georgia Teacher's College and his Master's degree from the University of Georgia. He taught mathematics and computer science at the Citadel for 28 years and taught computer science at North Greenville College for ten years. He was a member of Simpsonville First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mr. Kirkland is survived by three daughters, Deborah Jean Siebert and husband Michael, Karen René Borke and husband Jeff, and Joy Charla Denhoff; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Linda, Jason, Mark, Marcia, Scott, and Dakota; and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Ellis Kirkland; a sister, Doris Kirkland Walden; and a son-in-law, Donald Gary Denhoff.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Simpsonville First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Graceland East Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
