Ellen Shirer Obituary

Mrs. Ellen Langston Shirer, 98, of 2658 McCords Ferry Road, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at her residence.

Service: 11 a.m. today, July 2, 2004, at Pine Grove Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Olin Chassereau officiating. Burial: Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Richard Carson, Walter Fogle, William M. Shirer III, Leroy Langston, Woody Davis, Chuck Poole, Nathan Poole and Ricky Sheets.

Mrs. Shirer was born in Laurens County, a daughter of the late Nathan Lee Langston and Mattie Adair Langston. She was the widow of William Monroe Shirer Sr., graduated from Greenville Women's College, and taught school for many years. She was an active member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for nearly fifty years.

Survivors: Daughters, Mrs. Adair S. (W.D. Jr.) Fogle, of Elloree, and Mrs. Rosalind S. (W.A. Jr.) Carson, of Lone Star; a son, William M. (Margaret) Shirer Jr., of Lone Star; grandchildren, Richard Carson, William Shirer III, Walter Fogle, all of Lone Star, Leigh F. Dangerfield, of Mt. Pleasant, Cheryl C. Spiers, of Greenville, Michelle S. Avent, of Kingstree; twelve great-grandchlidren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, O'Mega L. Poole and Doris L. Davis, both of Greenville, and Juanita L. Sheets, of Bennettsville.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery Trust Fund, 2688 McCords Ferry Road, Lone Star, SC; or to the charity of one's choice. -- Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
