Robert Dreyfus Obituary
Greenville - Robert Lee Dreyfus, 94, passed away on Thursday March 1, 2018. He was the husband of his beloved wife Sylvia Dreyfus who passed five years earlier. He was raised in New York by his parents Kathryn and Emanuel Dreyfus, and he lived with them and his loving sister Suzanne Levitan. A veteran who served in WWII, he analyzed aerial photos to make maps for the military.
He obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering and had a successful career working several decades for Cryovac, which moved to Greenville in 1962.
He was the father of three children, Kenneth (now deceased), Stephen, and Sally. He was the grandfather of six grandchildren: Joseph Friedman and his wife Sheryl; Laura Friedman; Deborah Tondini and her husband Steven; Karalee Masdon and her husband Zachary; Kathryn Rose Dreyfus, and Emily Ariel Dreyfus. He was also the great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren; Ariana, Carson, David, Sophia, and Wesley.
Robert was an active member and past president of the Temple of Israel and volunteered his time and expertise to many Jewish organizations. He visited Israel several times.
He received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor granted in South Carolina.
Interment will be at Beth Israel Cemetery in Graceland Cemetery West off White Horse Road at 2:00PM Tuesday March 6th. The funeral service, conducted by Rabbi Master, will follow at 3:00PM at the Temple of Israel, 400 Spring Forest Road in Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Temple of Israel.
