Michael J. Kitson, son of John and Mary Ellen Kitson, was born on January 7, 1951, in Queens, New York and died on January 29, 2024, after a brief and brave battle with interstitial lung disease. A longtime resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, he retired happily with his wife Carol to East Hampton, New York, to be close to the beach and the many cherished memories the Kitson family made there over the years. There they developed many wonderful friendships with fellow year-round East Enders and were at home by the water.
Michael was known to many of his family and friends as Big Mike, which was a testament both to his stature and effervescent, magnetic personality. He had a beautiful, dimpled smile that came easy and often, and he could always be counted on for a story and a laugh. A salesman for over forty years, he was known and respected for his honesty and his sense of humor. He also loved baseball, reading books, listening to music, and making memories on family vacations, mostly to the beach or to Disney World.
With everyone he came across, he was fun loving, loyal, very generous, and loved by friends both old and new. Most importantly, Michael was a loving and adoring husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Michael was predeceased by his parents, and sister, Peggy; and is survived by his wife, Carol, son, Michael and his wife Victoria and grandchildren, Nicole and Michael; sisters, Maureen Walsh, Patricia DiOrio (Frank), brother John Kitson (Maureen); sisters-in-law Joann LaRusso and Deborah Sciortino; and many nieces and nephews including Amy, Brian Jude, Brian, Elaina, Frank, John, Katie, Margaret, Regina, Richard and their spouses and children.
To honor Michael's life, family and friends will gather on Monday, 4-8 p.m., at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 134 Hamilton Avenue, Greenwich, 203-869-5968. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Chester, NY.
