Eugene "Whitey" Simmons

News Death Notice

SIMMONS, Eugene "Whitey" age 88 of Hamilton passed away at his home on December 13, 2011. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on March 19, 1923 to Roy and Jessie (Sroufe) Simmons. On December 22, 1944, at North Seventh Street Church of Christ he married Lucille Million. Eugene took early retirement from Mosler Safe Company and enjoyed working in his garden. He was a lifetime member of Monkey Mutual Aid Society, having served one term as president. Eugene was very instrumental in starting the North End Little League and got the first cross town tournaments started with the West Side Little League. He served as President of North End Little League for five years, and was also president of Garfield Booster Association. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille Simmons; one son Michael (Nancy) Simmons; one daughter Connie (Dennis) Burton; six grandchildren, Robert Eugene (Amanda) Burton, Kristin Dennise Burton, Lisa Lynn Webster, Tiffany Renee (David) Grubb, Kira Michelle (David) Murphy, Eric Russell Simmons; 11 great grandchildren, Mason, Madison, and Maxwell Burton, Madison Simmons and Justin Murphy, Elijah Simmons, Kelsey, Cyruss, and Alexa Webster, and Makenzy and Karly Grubb; two brothers, Robert Lee Simmons and Donald Richard Simmons; and three sisters, Dorothy Elizabeth Gabbard, Marian Rose Doll, and Irma Mae Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Roy, Wilbur, Orville, Thomas, Russell, Willard, and Raymond Simmons; five sisters, Mildred, Ruth, and Jessie Simmons, Margaret Liegl, and Helen Messal. Funeral services will be held at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Dan Knisley of West Side Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. www.browndawsonflick.com
