Janet loved crafts (EHC), and quilting. She volunteered everywhere and was always very giving. She enjoyed crocheting, she made blankets, scarves, and hats for all her grandchildren.
Janet loved drawing, painting, the outdoors, bird watching, and feeding squirrels.
She also enjoyed decorating cakes. She made wedding cakes and made-to-order cakes for special events. Everyone who had her cakes would say, "Best cake and frosting ever."
She loved playing games; cards, dice, and board games. And she loved spending time with her family and Sundays after church at grandma's with all her sisters and kids.
Janet accomplished so much in her lifetime. These are some of those accomplishments:
She was President of the Extension Homemakers Club and a member of the Single Parent's Scholarship Fund and a member of the Cancer Support Group. She helped with many fundraisers for these organizations.
She was an Exhibit Coordinator on the Newton County Fair Board for 20 years, resulting in a building named after her the "Janet Voshell Building."
A member of the Newton County Senior Center Board, representing community Seniors, meals on Wheels, and fundraisers
She was a Legacy Hospice Ambassador and a volunteer worker at the Newton County Christian Food Room.
She was the Key holder of the Jasper Christian Church and a member, activities director, and social events coordinator for the Jasper Legion Hut for Veterans.
She was awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1996 in the Jasper Alumni Association and she won the Jasper Arkansas Volunteer of the Year in 1992.
In 2013, she received the Women of Distinction Award in Harrison and she was Treasurer of the Woodmen's Life Hasty Chapter.
She moved to Newton County in 1986 and lived there for 39 years. She retired after working 25 years at John Deere.
Janet married Calvin Voshell on Nov. 18, 1963. They were married for 59 years and she was the love of his life. They raised 9 children and many foster children together.
