Eveline S. Finan

1919 - 2014

Eveline S. Finan, 94, of Terryville, widow of Robert B. Finan, died Tuesday March 25, 2014 after a brief illness. Eveline was presently a resident of River Ridge of Avon. Eveline was born July 29, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, NY, daughter of the late George and Olive (Lapaugh) Stokes. She grew up in Stamford, CT and in 6th grade moved to Bethel, CT. She graduated salutatorian at Bethel High School in 1936 and graduated Danbury Normal School (WCSU) in 1940. She then began her teaching career in Terryville, CT at East Main St. School, Prospect St. School, Holt School then retiring in 1986 from Plymouth Center School. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Terryville, CT. Eveline was an avid reader, also enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting. Family and friends relished her cookies, watermelon pickles and clam chowder. She especially enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings and summers in Eastham, Cape Cod. Remembered as a caring and loving mom and a proud grandmother. She leaves a son, Thomas Finan and his wife, Donna Eriksen of Burlington; her daughter, Olive and her husband, Thomas Gianakos of Simsbury; her grandchildren, Anne F. Gianakos of Mountain View, CA and Thomas R. Gianakos of Chapel Hill, NC; her sisters-in-law, Harriet and husband Ernest Bleau of Bristol and Nancy F. Hogan of Meredith, NH; eleven nieces and nephews and cherished friend and colleague Betty Della Camera of Plymouth, CT. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014, 8:00AM from the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville to Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30AM. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Terryville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00PM. The family wishes to thank her friends, neighbors, and the care givers at River Ridge for their attention and compassion.
