OTEN, Florence A. Florence A. Oten, 46, of Windsor departed this life on Monday, (April 4, 2005) at Hartford Hospital. She was born on January 13, 1959 in Hartford, to Barbara Oten and the late Monroe. Florence was a member of Phillip Metropolitan CME Church. She was employed with MDC for 11 years. She attended the Hartford School System. She traveled whenever she could. She was always venturing somewhere and trying new things. She enjoyed seeing different parts of the country and hoped to one day travel to Paris. Her true passion was fashion. She hoped to one day launch some fashion related endeavor. The greatest joy of her life was the achievement of her sons. She devoted all she could to help them succeed academically and professionally. She was so proud of her oldest son, Brance who graduated from UConn Business School and is currently employed with Aetna. She also had a lot of faith in her youngest son, Branen who is a junior at Boston University. She always encouraged her boys to do whatever made them happy and that to do this education was the key. Her happiness was derived from the knowledge that they were both on the path to become successful men. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Brance, and Branen Terry; a devoted companion, Bruce Terry; her brothers, Rufus (Teresa) Oten, Robert (Michelle) Oten, and Albert (Tara) Oten; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 6 p.m. with calling hour 5 p.m. at Fuqua Funeral Services, 94 Granby St., Bloomfield. Internment will be at the convenience of the family. Donation can be made to Phillip Metropolitian CME Building Fund, 2550 Main St., Hartford, CT.

To the Oten Family,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of your loved one. I grew up with Flo and attended elementary school with her. That seems like an eternity ago. It has been such a long time since I last saw her on Albany Avenue maybe 10 or so years ago while visiting Hartford. She was still the Flow that I grew to know and love, happy and full of fun. God Bless you all.

To The Oten & Terry Families,
My sincere sympathy goes out to you in the lost of your loved one. There are never really any words that can ease the pain; however I do know that God can fix all things, we just have to trust and believe in him; for he will send you a comforter to ease your pain.
Hartford is a small town where everybody knows everybody, Florence was a good person, It seemed as if I would always run into her at Marshalls shopping. We always talked about her sons and my son; what accomplishments they had made in school, college like proud parents do. Flo was a fine and decent human being and she will be missed by many. I know that the Lord will provide whatever your needs may be, he will get you through so remember when you are feeling like you just can't make it reach out and grab his unchanging hand.
Everybody at some point and time has experienced death, it tears at your heartstrings like nothing else, but we must remember that living here on earth is just a temporary stop and that God's word is real; for one day we will see his many mansions and there we will find our loved ones who have gone on ahead of us. Trust in God for he knows your pain, he will never foresake you in your time of need.
May God bless and keep you.
Sincerely,
Sharon Jenkins & Family

To The Oten Family:
I would like to extend sincere condolences from The Shepard Family and The Harris Family on the loss of your daughter/sister.
Having grown up with the entire Oten Family, it is with pleasure to be able to really express to the world how great a person Florence was. She was kind, sweet, loving, caring and highly fashionable. She always had warm words and a bright comforting smile for everyone she came in contact with.
To her sons (Brance & Branen):
I'm sure by now you both know how much your mother was loved, judging by the volume of people who showed up for her homegoing service. She was an angel on earth who touched a lot of hearts and will be sadly missed by us all. She and your dad did a wonderful job raising the two of you. Please continue making her proud by reaching all of your goals. Stay together, stay strong and you both will forever be blessed!
To Bruce(Florence devoted companion):
I would just like to thank you for being there for Florence throughout her entire illness. She was blessed to have someone like you in her corner!!!
God Bless you all!

To the Oten and Terry Family: Each life is a gift, a treasure that enriches the world and leaves us with precious memories. Pass your memories of your mother to your children and grandchildren. I know you grieve the loss of your mother. But remember - they're only as far away. As your heart, your soul, your dreams. The day will come when your pain will lessen. Your burden of grief will lift like the sun rising over the horizon. Until that day let others help you in any way they can.
Warm thoughts and sympathy are with you. I too knew your Mother for more years than I can remember. There was always kind words between us.
Remember you are never alone and with strenth and love, your soul will be refreshed and filled with wonderful memoies.
Always Valerie

Florence journey has just begun, don't think of her as gone away, life holds so many facets. Think of her as resting from sorrows and the tears, In a place of warmth and comfort where ther are no days and years.
Florence is wishing that we all could know one day how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
She is living ANGEL in our hearts who will stay with us forever. Nothing loved is never lost and she is loved so much.
GOD has her now!!!!!

We would like to express our deepest condolences for the Oten family.
The Bible calls your earthly body a "tent," and refers to your future body as a "house." "When this tent we live in (our body here on earth)is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever." Life is just a preparation for eternity.
God Bless you Florence and we love you.

To the Oten/Terry family. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy during this time of sorrow. Florence was a wonderful person who has played an important role and touched the lives of family's and aquantints she knew including myself. She was a true humanitarian and a people person. she would extend advise when needed during anytime. but the most sweetest precious thing of all to me is that she was a wonderful sister to me and I loved and respected her very much! Florence and my sister Terry were best friends since the time of old Dirt(funny!) so there for it created a bond that was so strong, so tight! no one dare to break it. Florence I thank you for small talks and the sisterly advise you strongly always gave me. Gurl, you are and shall always be the true "Diva" here and in the next whole other relm. I love you and will miss you dearly. I wont say goodbye just yet. lets just say.....until we meet again.

To the Oten and Terry Family,
Words can not express the loss you feel at this time. Flo was certainly a class act, one of kind and a beautiful person. I worked with her for many years at the MDC and we had a lot of laughs together. (For her sons, I am the girl with that crazy attack cat.) She never forgot anything that happened to someone in their life and she would always inquire back about each event. In the words of Maya Angelou: Death, where is they sting? It is here in our hearts and minds and memories. Yet, it is the enormity of the pain that is a tribute to Flo's life. "Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality" (Emily Dickinson).
My Deepest Sympathy, Rachael

Darwin and I were truly sadden my the lost of our sister "Flo" and we really know that she is not lost but with the Father in Heaven. For we know that there is no sorrow on earth that Heaven can not heal. What sticks in my mind most of all is one day I ran into Flo at the Newark airport, I can't remember where she was traveling to but I was going to Paris(I'm a International Flight Attendant based In NY) We hugged and kissed and planned to go to Paris. Flo,I said just let me know when you are ready. We exchanged numbers and stayed in contact. Boys know that your mother was an angel in disguse, and always had your best interest in Body, Mind, and Soul.Be encouraged and continue to make your mother proud, as she watches you from above.

Words can't describe the loss our family is feeling during this time. Florence was a sister, and Aunt and a friend to the Johnson Family. She reached out to both Crystal and Eboni when their mothers passed.
