Gordon Freer Obituary

Freer, Gordon H. Gordon H. Freer, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning, (March 14, 2009), at Emeritus Assisted Living Center in Rocky Hill. Gordon was born on August 12, 1925, and was the son of Arthur and Irene Freer. He and Alice, his beloved wife of 62 years, were lifelong residents of Hartford and spent many happy years in their home in the Blue Hills neighborhood. Gordon retired from the former Parker-Hartford company, where he was an estimator. He also enjoyed several hobbies, including carpentry, stamp collecting, and square dancing—he and Alice having been members of the Rip Snorters' Club for many years. Gordon was an active member of the B.P.O.E. 2060 in Windsor, and he and Alice were also very active in their parish, St Justin's R.C. Church on Blue Hills Avenue. During WWII, Gordon served in the Navy at the base in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he was stationed on a crash boat. He remained an active supporter of the VFW throughout his life. Gordon is survived by his wife, Alice; his sister, Doris Pierce and her husband, Richard, of Ivoryton; his nieces, Deborah Breaux and her husband, Carl, of Cromwell; Lynn Giroux and her husband, Dennis, of Chester, Jackie Rothe and her husband, Ron, of Australia, Jill Holz and her husband, Dick, of GA; his nephews, Mark Pierce of FL, and James Pierce and his wife, Suzanne, of WV, and their family members. In addition, Gordon leaves behind very close family friends: Reggie Sullivan, Mary (Sullivan) and Mark Labianca; Laurie (Sullivan) and Jeffrey Moulten, Michael Sullivan and his son, Gunner; and Alice Gallipol and her husband, Ken, of Willington. Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, on Saturday, March 21st. A calling hour will be held at 10 a.m. and will include an Elks remembrance, followed at 11 a.m. by a funeral service and burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW, 85 Kitts Lane, Newington, CT 06111, or B.P.O.E. Windsor 2060, P.O. Box 297, Windsor, CT 06095-2097.
