James Cantwell Obituary

James E. Cantwell, age 86, of Grantham, NH, beloved husband of Nancy (Swanbery) Cantwell, passed away peacefully April 9, 2023 at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH with his loving wife of 60 years by his side. Jim was born on January 19, 1937 in Waterbury to the late James, Sr. and Madeline (Barrett). Jim grew up in Bridgeport, attended Bassick HS, then enlisted in the US Navy where he attended electronics school and served on the submarine USS Sea Lion. He worked his entire career in the electronics and avionics field and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft. A friend of many and a diehard Red Sox and UConn basketball fan, he lived the majority of his adult life in Fairfield before retiring to Glastonbury, then Grantham, NH. "Ned" was predeceased by siblings, Joyce Heltzel, Joan Cross, Patricia Cantwell, Jacqueline Cody and John Cantwell and survived by sister Debbie Keller of Dallas, GA. Jim is survived by his children; Victoria Cantwell of Argyle, NY, James III of Milford, Rebecca Steingraber of Gansevoort, NY, Greg of Grantham, NH, Todd of Shillington, PA, and Glenn (Maura) of Glastonbury, CT. Grandchildren; Gabriella (Danny) West of Brooklyn, NY, Paige Cantwell of New York City, Alexander Steingraber of Gansevoort, NY, Patrick Cantwell of Chicago, IL, Carter Steingraber of Gansevoort, NY and Gavin Cantwell of Shillington, PA. Great grandchildren, Siena and Camila West, and several nieces and nephews.
