Jane W. Gwisc

Jane W. Gwisc, 98, of Newington, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022. She was the loving wife to the late Walter W. Gwisc for 63 years. Born in Hartford, Jane was the oldest of three children born to William A. and Margaret (Moran) White. Jane graduated from Canton High School and attended St. Joseph College. She was a long time Newington resident, residing here from 1950 to 2013 where she was active in her community. She was the first recreation director at Bel Aire Manor, a Welcome Wagon Hostess in Newington and a long time supervisor of that group in northeastern Connecticut, a past president of the Cedar Mountain garden club and a past president of the Newington Historical Society and a board member for many years. Jane was a parishioner at St. Mary Church and worked with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with the collection and distribution of clothing and food for those in need. Jane leaves her four children; Walter J. Gwisc and his wife Anna of East Lyme, Mary Jane Jones of Avon, Gregory J. Gwisc of North Kingstown, RI and Thomas Craig and his wife Regina Jacobs of Oakland, CA. She will be dearly missed by her five grandchildren; Christine Thebarge of Avon, Bryan Gwisc of Cranston, RI, Jennifer Provost of Barrington, RI, Katherine Gwisc Laskowski of Old Saybrook, CT and Gregory M. Gwisc of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Missing her also will be her 7 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 15th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Newington. She will be laid to rest in St. Michael Cemetery in Glastonbury.
