John Bannon Obituary

John Henry Bannon 50, beloved son of Frederick and Elvera (Colonna) Bannon of Wethersfield passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Florida on December 6, 2014. John was born and lived most of his life in Wethersfield. His bigger than life stature and personality made him a formidable opponent in the many sports he participated in, both in school and into adulthood. Especially as a goalie in soccer where he was nearly impossible to score against, having entire seasons where he let up less than 5 goals. John was a "jack of all trades, master of many". He really could do anything he set his mind to. Most of all he loved working with his dad (his real life super-hero) in his painting business. John realized his dream of moving to Florida, where he started his own business. He was proud to have recently earned his Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Training and Certification from the University of Florida. Best of all he was a season ticket holder to his lifelong favorite Miami Dolphins. John will certainly be remembered for his outrageous sense of humor, his animated story telling and his passion for living life to the fullest. If you met John, you remembered John. John was the baby of the "Bannon bunch". Along with his parents, John leaves a huge void in the lives of his brothers, Frederick (Maria) Bannon, Jr. of Marin County CA, Jeff (Terri) Bannon of Salem VA; his sisters, Lillian (Joe) Farinella of South Windsor, Loretta (Chris) Piper-Harvey of Rocky Hill. He was extremely proud to be Uncle John to his nephews Paul (Kimberly) Farinella, Justin (Christa) Piper, John and Steven Bannon; his nieces Jennifer (Shawn) Farmer, and Leah Harvey; as well as his six great-nieces Mary Rose, Julia, Ana, Addison, Emma and Lyla. John was also a friend of Bill W and will be greatly missed by the many friends in the fellowship. Fred and Ellie - we are very sorry to hear about John. I remember the times when he would come over to our house at 170 Farmington Ave when you would come to visit Mom and Dad and having fun in the backyard. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I met John in the late fall of 1981 at the Hartford Civic Center. We were inseparable for almost two years following that first meeting. John was crazy and unpredictable but had a zest for life that was infectious. I often wondered over the years how he was doing and I was truly saddened to hear of his passing. John's ability to make people laugh with his goofiness was his gift. I wish to send the Bannon family my deepest condolences.

John & I have known each other from our teenage years and he was always a lively and fun guy to be around. He certainly had enthusiasm and was his own person.
I am saddened that his life ended so soon
and express my sincere condolences to family and other friends.

My deepest condolences to the Bannon Bunch... As I sit here typing, although I have tears in my eyes, my mouth has formed a smile! John was larger than life! He was smart. He was funny. He was sensitive. He definitely LOVED! He truly LOVED his family! The countless stories and the endless love for you filled many of our conversations! He had a heart! A heart that made promises with the best of intentions! He walked into my life almost three decades ago and never left! I have and will always have a special place in MY heart for John and the entire Bannon Bunch! I love you!

My heartfelt condolences to his family. John or as many of us called him, Bannon, has left with me with lots of memories; like how he would always flick his head back to get his hair out of his eyes or when he poured yellow paint on my white painter's pants in art class or how I came home for Thanksgiving dinner one year and found him in our living room watching old family movies; how he walked me home from Webb Junior High, but I was not allowed to have people in the house when no one was home, so he waited hours in the garage until my Mom got home. The first time I ever saw him was in the cafeteria at Webb Junior High, the tallest kid I'd ever seen and he put a salad on his head. He was certainly a character, a tall tale story teller and a loyal friend. It poured at my Mother's Funeral and when I got out of the limo, there was "Bannon" with a coveted umbrella to make sure that my sister and I did not get soaked going into the church. He was really sweet like that. I'm sure he's got everyone spellbound in heaven with his stories and antics and flipping his hair back with his signature hair snap. Thanks for the memories, John "Bannon". RIP, Sheila Putnam Strong, Wethersfield High School Class of 1982 and friend.
