John Church Obituary
John was a regular at All Saints Church in Pawleys Island until he had to move into The Lakes. As a proud veteran, John served in the United States Navy during World War II. One of his greatest accomplishments was flying planes off aircraft carriers. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.
After the war, he worked for Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, CT, before finding his true profession in insurance and financial planning. John graduated from Hillyer (now University Hartford) in Hartford, CT with a business degree. He received his master's degree from American University in Bryn Mawr, PA and became a Certified Life Underwriter.
Survivors include his son, David B. Church of Glastonbury, CT and his daughter Susan Church Gasque and his son-in-law, Mark P. Gasque of Pawleys Island.
John is also survived by 10 nephews and nieces and their children in New England, the Carolinas and Florida.
He enjoyed the great outdoors, his family and loved God. He became an Eagle Scout in his youth and saw this as a great accomplishment. He also was a true animal lover rescuing many cats and dogs. Any donations can be made to St. Francis Animal Rescue in Georgetown, SC. or to your favorite veteran's group.
A special thank you to the staff at The Lakes, The Arbors and Tidelands Hospice for their wonderful care of our father.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 2pm in his hometown of Wethersfield, CT. at the First Church of Christ Church where he was a life-long member.
