John Lupo Obituary

John Paul Lupo, Sr., 98 of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2003 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Popoli, province of Pescara, Italy, a son of the late Mattei and Elizabeth (Paolo) Imartino, he had been a life-long resident of Hartford. He was a US Army veteran of WW I. As a young man he spent time as an auto mechanic with various local shops. In the 1920's he co-founded "Johnny Wolf's Orchestra" along with his friend Frank Santoro. They played in many area clubs where John was known for his saxophone and clarinet playing. One of the last places that they performed was at the former French Club in Hartford. He went on to be a toolmaker, retiring from the New England Aircraft, Co. Farmington. He was an avid photographer, as he photographed his daughter's wedding and also developed his own pictures. John was an avid golfer and Duckpin bowler, as he was ranked as one of the best in the area, especially after bowling a perfect game of 200 in Duckpins. John is survived by three sons, John Paul Lupo, Jr. of Hartford, Donald James Lupo and Ronald Rocco Lupo both of Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Amato Conderino of Florida; his most beloved sweetheart and companion, Gertrude M. Chasse of Hartford with whom he made his home; a brother, Arthur Lupo of Hartford; five grandchildren, Michael Lupo, Michelle Davis, Darlene Romano, Sharon Kromanov and Stacey DeFranzo; five great grandchildren, Frankie and Justin Romano, Jonathan and Zachary Davis and Matthew DeFronzo; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Armando "Lefty" Lupo and three sisters, Caroline Tarquino, Yolanda Morris and Ella Brown. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday (April 30, 2003) at 11 AM at D'ESOPO Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (April 30th) one hour prior to the service time.
