John D. "Jack" O'Brien

John D. "Jack" O'Brien, 92, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of 62 years to Gertrude (Curran) "Agnes" O'Brien, died Tuesday (December 24, 2002) at Glastonbury Health Care Center. Born July 5, 1910 in Portland, son of the late William and Catherine (Fitzgerald) O'Brien he had lived in Glastonbury for the past 42 years. He was an insurance executive with Crumb-Forrester in New York City, NY prior to his retirement in 1972. Mr. O'Brien graduated from Tufts University in 1933 and had served in the Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a life member of the Irish-American Home in Glastonbury, a charter member of the Glastonbury Hills Country Club and was made an honorary member on his 90th birthday. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Richard Rainford of Ashland, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Richard, William and David O'Brien. Funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 27, 9 a.m. from the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church, Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, Portland. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., Northern CT.
