The medical community has lost a superb doctor. I worked with Joe at NBGH back in the 70's. Not only was he brilliant, he was compassionate and caring. My deepest sympathy to his family.

A few weeks ago our priest gave a sermon in which he said that God gave each of us a choice in life.

We could choose to be saints, or we could choose not to be saints.

I immediately thought of Dr. Scholand.

Everyone knows the choice that Dr. Scholand made.

God bless him for making that choice.

And God bless the family he loved so much.
