Judith G. Van Alstyne

1944 - 2016

Judith "Judi" G. Van Alstyne, 72, of Berlin, CT, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Hartford Hospital. Born May 29, 1944, in Winsted, CT, she was the daughter of the late Lily (Scalise) and Jared W. Van Alstyne. Judi led a life full of creative artistry. Friends and family were the constant recipients of her knitting, jewelry, meals and baking, including a very special holiday fruitcake and her owl cookies. So many people will remember and miss her joyous open house each Christmas. No one could decorate a tree as did Judi! Every gift received from Judi was a work of art. Judi attended Gilbert High School and Colby College in Maine. Her work experience includes 30 years as an Analyst at Hartford Insurance, Program Director at the CT Dept of Consumer Protection, and, most recently, Hartford Research. Judi is survived by two brothers: Roy of Winsted and Brian of Rhode Island. She was predeceased by her brother, Jared. Judi leaves behind many longtime, treasured friends. Judi's family and friends wish to thank the staff on Bliss 9-I at Hartford Hospital for their compassionate care and support. Friends may call on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted, CT, from 10 - 11 AM, with a memorial service at 11 AM.
