Kenneth A. Doeg

Kenneth A. Doeg, 92, of Storrs Mansfield, CT passed away on November 5, 2023. He was born in West Hoboken, NJ, the only child of Albert and Wally (Letz) Doeg.

Ken graduated from Montclair Teacher's College in 1952. He received his doctorate at Rutger's University in 1957 researching polycystic ovarian syndrome. He was at the Enzyme institute at the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1958 until 1961. Following his time in Wisconsin, he moved to the University of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh working as an assistant professor doing research in diabetes from 1961 until 1964. In 1964, Kenneth worked as a professor of molecular and cell biology at UConn until 1997. There he did mitochondrial research, and taught biochemistry and intro to biology courses.

He was active at the Storrs Congregational Church for nearly 60 years and volunteered at Windham Hospital for over 25 years greeting patients and visitors at the check-in desk. Ken was sought after as a fair and trusted AKC dog judge, he traveled all over the country fulfilling judge assignments. He was an active member of the South Windsor Kennel Club.

Kenneth was a huge soccer and UConn women's and men's basketball fan. He traveled extensively around the world. He loved his yearly trek to Santa Fe where he met up with friends at the Santa Fe Opera and Indian Market.

He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Lynette Doeg. He is survived by his daughters Beth Murana and Salvatore and Leslie Romero and William. Proud grandfather of Stephanie Schleicher and Andrew, Brian Murana, Emily Romero, Gabriella Romero, and William Romero, Jr.

Ken's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His funeral service will be on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10:00am at the Storrs Congregational Church, 2 N. Eagleville Rd. Storrs, CT with his burial following at Storrs Cemetery.
