Steven Hepple Obituary

Steven J. Hepple (January 31, 1953- October 12, 2017) died peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with a rare neurological disease. Steve grew up in Newington; he graduated from Newington High School in 1972 and attended Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. He lived in Storrs, for many years with his family before moving back to Newington. Steve worked as a claims adjuster in the insurance and personal injury fields in the greater New Haven area and was known for his quick wit, integrity, and diligent work ethic. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports enthusiast who played football and basketball and who especially loved to follow his teams - the New York Jets and the New York Yankees. Steve was the son of Anna Joan (Blum) Flynn of Newington, and the late Donald Hepple. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother Peter Hepple and his wife Lee of Newington, and his sister Pamela Terwilliger and her husband Michael of New Hartford. Anyone who knew Steve knew how proud he was of his girls, his daughters, Lindsey Hepple and her husband Kyle Dunnack of Willington; Morgan Hepple and her husband Peter of Mansfield Center, and Mallory Akin and her husband Al of Newington. Steve's three granddaughters, Deanna Hepple, Ella Dunnack, and Eda Akin brought him tremendous joy. He also leaves behind a niece and several nephews: Allison Hepple, John Hepple, Michael Hepple, James Hepple, Jeffrey Terwilliger, Timothy Terwilliger, and Brian Terwilliger. Steve leaves behind his friend, Mary Ruth Shields of Newington as well as many other dear friends and loved ones. His family would like to thank Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice for their compassionate nursing care. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, Oct. 15th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. His funeral service will begin on Monday, Oct. 16th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. To share a memory, please visit us at www.newingtonmemorial.com.

I had the good fortune to have met Steve when we were youngsters in elementary school and enjoyed his friendship from that time frame right through our high school graduation. A true and sincere individual and an absolute class act as a student athlete that always influenced others with the utmost in integrity. Steve will be missed by many as he touched folks with warmth, wit and human decency among other gifts in making him the special person that he has been. He will surely grace heaven with his presence, kicking it up exponentially in notches upon arrival. May the Hepple family be blessed with the utmost in strength now and forever knowing that Steve is safe in a place that he is ever worthy and deserving to occupy. For those of us who knew Steve, we can agree that he is truly the kind of individual who has made our world an extremely gratifying one.

I'm shocked. I just had a great visit with him and Peter. Peter left us alone for a bit and Steve and I reminisced for an hour: two old men talking about the good old days. Of course we talked about sports, Newington, high school days- Frank O'Rourke stories, working, yes, a part of that beast of a 40 foot aluminum ladder he used to paint houses is still around. We laughed a fair amount and had some serious talk and I guess that's it for one proud papa.

I've known you since ~1970 when our parents got together - 47 years is a long time to know some one and although we had had our up and downs in the distant past and unfortunately for me we had not kept in very good touch through the more recent ones, I still feel the sorrow and am awash with memory how good a person you have been through your very short life.

I believe you are going to a place from which you can grow in different ways and hope that your struggles on earth put you at the top.

With love and faith,

K

I have worked with Steve for the past 23 years. We've had so many laughs! We talked about everything. His daughters/grandkids were his world and he always spoke about how much he loved them. Politics was always an argument in the office but we always finished it with a joke. I will miss you Steve! I love you. I can't believe your gone. Rock the heavens! Until we see each other again!
