Virginia Griffin Obituary

GRIFFIN, Virginia "Ginny" (Donahue) Virginia "Ginny" (Donahue) Griffin, 82, of Suffield, formerly of Huntington, NY, beloved wife of Bradford J. Griffin, died peacefully on Wednesday (July 16, 2008) at St. Francis Hospital. Born on September 4, 1925 in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Mary (Purcell) Donahue. Ginny was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in 1945 and obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Long Island University. She worked as an Engineering Assistant for Chance-Vought Aircraft and then as an Educator in the Huntington Public Schools. Ginny was married to the love of her life, Bradford, on January 17, 1948 and together they settled in Huntington, NY, where they raised their eight children. After their retirement, Ginny and Bradford moved to Suffield where they have lived for over 17 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Suffield and a faithful member of the 8 a.m. "Daily Mass Club." Ginny loved to quilt and was a member of the Quilter's Club and a member of the Suffield Women's Club. Besides her husband of over 60 years, Brad, she leaves a son, Mark Griffin and his wife, Beverly Popek of Fairfax, VA; six daughters, Pamela MacDonald and her husband, Robert of Drexel Hill, PA, Gail Skahen and her husband, Timothy of Newburgh, NY, Jill Griffin and her husband, Bill Farren of Princeton Junction, NJ, Karen Poole and her husband, Bob of Holliston, MA, Wendy O'Keefe and her husband, Gerald of Needham, MA and Kim Chambers and her husband, Gregg of Needham, MA, and 19 loved and cherished grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers, Thomas R. Donahue and his wife, Rachelle Horowitz of Washington D.C. and Warren Donahue of Armonk, NY. She was predeceased by her daughter, Donna Jean Griffin and her brother, Vincent Donahue. Family and friends may gather on Saturday, 9 a.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rte. 159) Suffield; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., from Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 21, 12 noon, in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Huntington, NY. Her family will receive friends on TODAY, from 5 - 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
