My condolences to Sibyl's family. I know you will sorely miss her. She was a wonderful person to everyone she met. I have many fond memories of her from SCBTC; she was an inspiration to me and all she came in contact with.

"Sibyl Borne Bowles was my Dear Friend" Please see Obituary below.
--Heaven gained another angel this week. My beautiful, sweet friend Sibyl Bourne Bowles passed away Monday, March 30, 2015. She was 91.
--Sibyl adopted me when I came to the SCBTC Assignment Office (AO) in 1969. Me? I was green and all of 21. Sibyl? About 24 years my senior. Sibyl seemed to have run the AO. Least in my mind's eye. Sibyl quickly became one of my dearest friends. The age difference? Never mattered. We initially worked AO Dispatch together and were a small, tight-knit group. Sibyl, Carolyn Stafford Suggs, Katie Malone, Billy Nobles, Bill Andrews, and our fearless leader Tilly Tilghman (sp.)
--Sibyl was an amazingly talented employee; bright, sweet; a good Christian lady. She seemingly knew the physical location of every telephone pole, terminal, house, business, etc. in Hattiesburg, Laurel, and all the small towns in our district. She treated the Outside Plant Lineman, Installers, Supervisors, and all other SCBTC employees with dignity and respect. Respect was returned to Sibyl ten-fold. Back in the day, before the advent of the personal GPS, I recall listening many times as Sibyl directed a young, green, "lost" Lineman or Installer on turn-by-turn directions to the exact, precise, location of a telephone pole or terminal. Though still housed in the AO, Sibyl took a well deserved promotion, to Plant Assigner. No small feat for a woman back in the day. Carolyn Stafford Suggs and Katie Malone were promoted also to Plant Assigners. Sibyl is the reason I became "a card-toting, never been to a union meeting" union member. It was a sign of respect for Sibyl and others who had bravely gone before me.
--I watched Sybil's display of strength, dignity and grace, when disease took one young grandson and later when another young grandson was injured critically. Thinking about it now, I realize I probably drew on Sybil's lessons of grace and strength when forty or so years later, tragedy also struck my immediate family.
--I am a better person for having known Sibyl Bourne Bowles. Shirley Smith
mentioned that she has recipes written in Sibyl's beautiful handwriting. Many of us do. Definitely treasures for the ages. Sibyl was a wonderful cook and often cooked for the SCBTC Assignment Office employees. The AO had grown eventually to perhaps 40 or so employees. Sibyl made the most wonderful candy. Cakes. Desserts were her speciality. I cannot fathom the number of times I opened my desk drawer to find her delicious treats. I remember Sibyl's hot biscuits and homemade Mayhaw jelly. Beautiful memories even if she and Freddy Delaney did trick me, a somewhat vegetarian, long before the word was coined, to eating half hog and half deer sausage. The entire AO was in on that one for weeks. Maybe months.
--I moved to Memphis in 1981 but Sibyl and I remained friends through the years. I am so glad to have attended Sibyl's 90th birthday party last year. Job well done David, Peggie, Gary and other family members.
--Sibyl will be sorely missed by her wonderful family and multitude of friends. Sibyl will no doubt have a lot of catching up with family and friends as she enters Heaven. Bet she finds her grandson first. Peggie Bowles

Sibyl Bowles was a wonderful lady. She was so sweet to me when I worked with her at the phone company. She gave me the best recipes that I still have and make. She was a wonderful lady and will be remembered as such.
