Darcy Dengel Obituary

Darcy Lynn Dengel, 27, of Great Falls, an emergency flight nurse at Benefis Hospital, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, in a plane crash near Belgrade while on a medical mission.

Her memorial service will be held at Central Assembly of God Church in Great Falls on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at 1 p.m.

Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Burial of ashes will take place in the Dengel Family Cemetery.

Darcy Lynn Dengel left this world for heaven on Feb. 6, 2007, as a result of a tragic aircraft accident. She passed on while doing the work that she loved. She touched many lives in the short 27 years she was with us.

Darcy was born in Lewistown on June 27, 1979. She joined her sister, Dawn where the family lived on 100 acres near Roy. Darcy attended school in Grass Range and Manhattan, graduating from Manhattan High in 1997 and from the MSU-Bozeman College of Nursing in 2001.

After graduation, Darcy worked as a RN at Sidney Health Center for one and a half years. For the past four years she worked in the Benefis Emergency Room, where she was involved in many aspects of their program: scheduling, PR and the softball team. In 2005, Darcy met one of her goals, that of becoming a flight nurse.

Darcy was very involved in Camp Francis, a camp for grieving children and was also a medical educator for Montana's DEC (Drug Endangered Children) program. She loved the challenge of being a flight nurse and of helping others.

Darcy was engaged to be married to Rob Beall, a young man who complimented her zest for life. They were to be married in October.

Darcy is survived by her fiancé, Rob Beall; her parents, Rich and Donna Dengel of Lewistown; her sister, Dawn Dengel, her maternal grandmother, Ardith Woodworth of Lewistown and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Darcy's life redefined the word "family."

She will be missed by the staff of Benefis, emergency services personnel, seven years of Camp Francis volunteers and campers, and anyone who ever heard her laugh.

Memorials may be made to Camp Francis, c/o Benefis Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 7008, Great Falls, MT 59406-7008, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Condolences may be left for the family at www. schniderfuneralhome.com

Darcy left her mark. Her passion for life and her personal determination is what she gave to anyone she cared for. Just like birth so is death a journey. One doesn't know when either will come. Darcy was full of passion, passion for life and death. She showed such grace. Darcy redefined what a nurse really is~Compassion. An angel on earth has left us and now is on a new journey to heal from heaven.

Mr and Mrs Dengel,Dawn and Rob
My heart felt sympathy to you and your family. I had the honor and priviledge to know and work with Darcy when she came to the Sidney Health Center. What an inspiration and joy she was to be around. She truely enjoyed the work she had chosen for her profession and she showed that by the way she lit up the room when she came in and the way the patients she cared for responded to her. Even though she was only here a short time, she touched so many of us in so many special ways. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to know Darcy if even it was just for a little while. I will keep you all in my prayers as you go through this grieving period.
May Jesus and His Angels be with you all.

I worked with Darcy in the ICU at Sidney, usually following her after a night shift, and she still had that smile on her face! I know there are no words to take away the pain, the questions. She was a true inspiration...teaching us how to give 100% of yourself to others, not because you had to, but because you wanted to. I feel blessed to have known Darcy, to have worked by her side. She had that desire to learn, to constantly improve herself not only as a nurse, but as a person. She accomplished so much in her short life, more than most people do in 80 years. She will continue to inspire me to be a better person, a better daughter, a better nurse, and for that I am thankful.

Please accept my deepest sympathies, you are in my prayers.

My Deepest Sympathy to the Dengal family-
I was absolutely shocked to hear of the news of my ER family. I worked with Darcy in the ER. I got to know her warm smile and her infectious personality. She was passionate about nursing. I left Montana but it was where I started my nursing career. I will always remember the good times and bad times in the ER. ER family is a unique set of people and not just anyone can work under those conditions or circumstances. Darcy was a unique piece of the ER and I am proud to have worked with her and known her.

Mr. and Mrs. Dengel, and Dawn,

I only had the opportunity to meet Darcy once, but I remember her well because of Dawn. Although I haven't seen Dawn for a few years now, I have fond memories of Dawn from high school, Girls State, and UM. I always knew Dawn had a heart of gold and it is obvious to me now that Darcy did too. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are all able to find peace.

I am very sorry to hear of everyone's loss of such a great person. Remembering Darcy in high school, I never saw her without a smile on her face. She is special to many people. I admired her for her work as a nurse, and she is someone I looked up to. During my nurses training, I did a clinical at the Sidney Hospital and will never forget talking to Darcy one of the first days she was working in ICU by herself. Watching her work and be so confident shortly after she graduated impressed me. It is hard to put into words how much she will be missed. My prayers are with you.

There are not words that can express all that Darcy was. I met her as she searched for her first RN job. She just showed up one day, looking for a place to "learn". I think that Sidney Health Center was very lucky to have her "learn" with us.

I know she was so special to her parents. Her mother contacted me once, after a tough shift, so that I could visit with her--to help her on her way, but only in secret. I never told her that Mom called to help watch over her.

We were sad to see her leave Sidney, and certainly are much saddened by this loss now.

I can only take comfort in the fact she was doing what she loved, and God certainly has a place for people like her.

My prayers are with you.

February 12, 2007

I was shocked and saddened beyond belief when I heard about Darcy. She was such a bright, fun-loving, and adventurous person. It was true that she touched the lives of all with whom she came in contact. I'll always remember the year that she, Dawn, and I were track managers at Manhattan High. We had so much fun together. And when I'd take her and Dawn home from track in my lovely brown car, sometimes we'd go out on Dry Creek Road a little ways and get on a little side road and I'd let Darcy drive. I'm sure she wouldn't mind me telling this now, and I will assure you she was a very good driver! But we had a lot of good times together, and sometimes she almost felt like my little sister, too.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and Darcy's fiance. I can only imagine how difficult this is, but I hope it's nice to know how she touched my life!

Susan (Parker) Swanz

I remember her as a little girl, I am very impressed by the woman that she became. I wish each of you peace and comfort. Know that your loss is Gods gain and that she was greeted by Grandpa Jack and Shannon (a big red dog!).

We want to express our deepest sympathies to Darcy's family, fiancee and friends during this terrible time of loss. She impacted so many people she touched, and will always be remembered as the kind and loving person she was. She was an inspiration to those she worked with as well as those who were just learning to become part of the medical profession here in Great Falls and at Benefis, and her gifts to those students will always be remembered by those she taught.

With deepest sympathy,

Darcy was the greatest neighbor that a person could ever ask for. Ever since the first time I met her while shoveling her walk and calling her "Susan", she was one of the greatest, most down to earth people I could have ever hoped to have met, and held as a friend. Whether just to talk, or ask for advice, she was always there. She will be greatly missed by me and many, that saw and knew her friendly smile. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. Always reflect on the good she passed to all!

Rich, Donna, Dawn, and Rob

Word cannot express our feelings for your loss. I only met Darcy once, but feel I know her through your stories and updates in her career. You show great pride in both your daughters and their achievments.
We all take risks in life and Darcy took a risk that helped benefit others. It takes a special type of person to do that job and assume that responsibility.I have worked as an emergency room nurse for over 25 years now and can't tell you the relief I feel when Help Flight arrives to transport a patient to the appropriate facility.I commend Darcy, our EMT'S ( like Donna ), our firefighters, and police officers who are willing to take a risk to make a difference in the lives of others. You should be very proud.

I had the privelege & honor to work with Darcy as a new nurse. From the beginning you could tell that it was her true calling to help others. The minute you met Darcy you knew you had met someone special! She always had that smile, twinkle in her eyes & some quick comment. Her spunky & fun attitude were contagious. All of us at Sidney Health Center were so upset & saddenned about the horrible news. May it bring you comfort knowing she did so many wonderful things/acts in her short years. She had never met a stranger and had a smile that could brighten the darkest of rooms. Her zest for life was contageous and I have found myself thinking of her often since we have left.
