Frances Alda Greenwood Hickson

1919 - 2016

HICKSON, FRANCES ALDA GREENWOOD, 96, a longtime resident of Homestead, FL passed away on July 11, 2016 in Kennesaw, GA. Frances was born August 10, 1919 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was the younger of two children born to George Alfred Greenwood and Susan Elizabeth Robinson. Frances lost her mother at a very early age and her father remarried Flora 'Mattie-Belle' Jones. She was the youngest to ever attend Montreat Normal School for Women, in Montreat, NC. Graduate of Lee Edwards High School, Asheville, NC. Following graduation she joined her sister Georgia M. Kingsbery and brother-in-law in Miami, FL where she worked at Miami Shipbuilding Corp during WW II. There she met Samuel Murray Hickson, a young Naval Architect from Naranja, FL. They were married January 6, 1943 and spent almost sixty years together until his death in 2002. After Sam completed thirty-years as a Naval Architect/Marine Engineer for the Army and Marine Corp, they returned to his home in the Redlands after retiring. Frances is survived by her son, John R Hickson and wife Vickie L. Hickson of Kennesaw, GA and her sister's son Harry G. Kingsbery and wife Norma of Manassas, VA. Grand children include Tracy D. Fields (Chuck), John Brian Summers (Rosie), and Michael Summers. Great grand-children: Jessica S. Fields, Jillian P. Fields, Mitchel B.Summers, and Samuel A. Summers; nieces and nephews. A 11AM graveside service will be held for family and close friends at Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn, 27100 Old Dixie Hwy, Naranja, FL 33032 on Monday, July 18,
