Michael Evans Obituary

EVANS, MICHAEL WOOD, 61, of Niwot, Co., died May 6, 2007, at Longmont United Hospital, Longmont, Co. He was born May 3, 1946 in Miami to long-time Miami Herald sportswriter and radio talk show host Luther Evans and Beverly Wood Evans. Michael graduated from Miami Senior High in 1964 and Colorado State University in 1969. He married Barbara Knowles in 1966. While an engineer with NOAA in Boulder, Co., he received the U.S. Dept. of Commerce Gold Medal Award for the development of radar that measures ocean currents. Michael founded CODAR Technology in 1980 and developed computers that were "ruggedized" for military applications. He patented his designs and continued as CEO of CODAR until its sale in 1992. He than worked as a civilian consultant for the the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter Casandra of Niwot; son, Scott (Susan) Evans; grandchildren, Christopher, Kaitlyn and Jason Vista, CA; sister, Teri Barkley (John) of Longmont; nephew James Lundin of Denver; niece, Tina Adler of Mead, CO; step-mother, Deborah Evans of Miami; and uncle Dick (Jody) Evans, long-time Miami Herald bowling, writer, of Daytona Beach. I am so sorry for your loss. Been a long time now. Trust you are all well. Mike was so young. Would like to know What happened to him. Just now found out he passed.
