Robert Lee Vickers

1929 - 2019

Robert Lee Vickers died peacefully in his sleep December 13, 2018 surrounded by family at the home of his son Robert in Miami Shores. Bob, son of Katherine and Carlos Vickers was the first baby born in St. Francis Hospital in Miami Beach, April 2, 1929. After schooling in Miami Beach, Bob attended Miami Edison Sr. High, graduating in 1947. He then attended University of Miami school of journalism. While serving in the United States Army, Bob married Bethany Robinson in 1953. Later that year they moved back to Miami. Bob joined Allstate Insurance Company where he retired after 50 years of service. Bob and Bethany's children, Virginia Lee Harrison (Jim), Laura Lee Burnett (G.W.), Linda Louise Miller (Stewart), Clifford Charles Vickers (Karen), Robert Bates Vickers (Yubiza) and Allison Blinn Vickers (Dexter), all reside in Florida. Bob was preceded in death by his eldest son, Lee Edward in 1980 and sister Betty Shaver in 2016. Bob was a doting grandfather to Alexandra Blinn Richardson, Christopher Lee Vickers, Juliette Nicole Vickers, Robert Lee Vickers, and step son Ben Witherington. Bob's 45 years sobriety included counseling members at frequent meetings. He was caring and loving in his associations with those seeking advice and help. Bob favorite pastime was fishing and he enjoyed many hours taking the boat out with family. Bob also spoke with appreciation about all the fun trips fishing with friends in the islands. He was a avid sports fan, following UM and Dolphins each season. In addition, Bob's love of Dixieland music continued throughout his lifetime. He and Bethany spent many hours in concert listening to leading musicians of this art. Bob was and active member of Miami Shores Presbyterian Church for many years where he served as deacon. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Service will be held at Miami Shores Presbyterian Church Chapel on Saturday, February 23rd at 10 AM.
