Lynn Bowen Obituary

Lynn Jo Bowen (Andreen) of St. Joseph passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age of 84. Lynn spent her final days surrounded by loving family and friends, under the compassionate care of the Corewell Health staff. Throughout her life and even in her final moments, Lynn's warmth, grace and unwavering spirit touched all who knew her.

Born on March 25, 1940, in Chicago, Lynn was the daughter of Reynold and Bess Andreen. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1958. She pursued her education at National College of Education in Evanston, Ill., where she earned a degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten at Jefferson School in St. Joseph for 10 years. It was during her teaching years that she met the love of her life, Dennis Bowen, whom she married in 1967.

Lynn's life passion were children. Throughout her life many of her former students stayed in touch and even now are sharing the impact she made on their lives. Lynn, along with her husband Dennis, were dedicated volunteers at the hospital. Many in the community also enjoyed her hospitality. She was known as a gracious hostess and loyal friend which endeared her to colleagues, friends, and family alike.

As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Lynn found great joy in her family. She and Dennis raised two children: Andrew and Alison, creating a home filled with love, music and laughter. Lynn took particular delight in her role as grandmother to Stephanie Baginske Anders and great-grandmother to Marcie and Jameson Anders.

Throughout her life, Lynn was a steadfast supporter of Dennis's musical career and volunteer work. Together, they formed a dynamic duo, contributing significantly to the cultural and social fabric of St. Joseph. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and shared commitment to community service.

Lynn is survived by her granddaughter, Stephanie (Baginske) Anders (Michael); great-grandchildren: Marcie and Jameson Anders. She also leaves dear cousins: Jim (Sandy) Sieber and John (Jan) Sieber; a niece, five nephews and scores of friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis; her son, Andrew; and her parents.

A special memory: In 1974, I was to sing Paper Roses in the 25th Annual Variety Show at St. Joseph High School. Lynn Bowen came up after JC and I had rehearsed and said to me, "I'm so very happy that you are singing that song, it fits your voice so well." Later on when Dennis had a dream of being back forgotten acts, he got in touch with me to audition for Encore. So I did and felt so honored to have a chance to sing again. Once again Lynn came up to me (after a rehearsal) and said, "I'm so proud that you came back to sing that song, you make it special."

I'm so very proud to have know the two of them. 1975 Graduate

My recollection of Lynn is one that is her legacy today! She was a beautiful and gracious woman with a smile that warms your heart! The words that she spoke were encouraging and always positive of whatever the subject or person she referred to! She was full of Grace!
