Williams, Dorothy Heilman
June 6, 1914 - April 8, 2008

Dorothy Heilman Williams, 93, Sarasota, formerly of Norwich, Conn., died April 8, 2008.
The services will be private.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Williams, teacher and football coach at the Norwich Free Academy for 40 years. She was also predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Edward H. Heilman of Windsong Lane, Siesta Key, and Eastern Point, Conn. They built a home here in 1951 and were instrumental in the building of the first building of St. Boniface Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her son, James A. Williams Jr. of Detroit, Maine; daughter Carol D. Williams of Sarasota, Fla., granddaughters Kimbal Grassia of Sarasota and Ashley McNeal and husband Brent McNeal of Tallahassee; and grandson James A. Williams III of Woodstock, Conn.
Dot taught biology and science at Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn., for 20 years and moved to Florida in 1990, where she served as a volunteer for the court reporting department at SCCI for many years. She was an avid golfer at the Gulf Gate Golf Club. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was born in Audubon, N.J., in 1914. She received her master's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1936, where she was a member of the golf team, rifle team and the field hockey team.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to one of the following organizations: TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; CoMission Project, South Shore Community Church, 34240 Interstate Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34240; James A. Williams Football Scholarship Fund, Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT 06360; or the Dorothy and James Williams Science Scholarship Fund, Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT 06360.
