Lewis Smither Jr. passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020. with family in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 88. Surviving is Lew's wife Arlene of 70 years in marriage along with sons Gary (Debbie Smither, Lew III (Terry) Smither including five grandchildren Gabriel (Brooke) Smither, Brad (Christina) Smither, Curtis Jaclyn, Michael and five great grandchildren Lewis , Lucas, Lillian, Theo, Winnie. It is with great pleasure to communicate how Lew touched and influenced so many lives. He will be returning home to Bagdad, Kentucky to be with family. A notification of celebration of life will be in the near future. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to PGA Junior Golf.

Deepest sympathies to the Smither family on the loss of Mr. Smither. He was my teacher at SJHS, he also photographed me as a cheerleader at SHS, I have the photo that he framed, made me feel as though he was so proud of me. He was a fine Christian man to have as a teacher, and loved that he always encouraged us, in our lives, to achieve our goals in life. So glad to reconnect with his son Lew this past year and to see he had so many grandkids. What a blessing to know that his legacy lives on in all of his family members. Thank you Mr. Smither for unconditionally supporting us as your students, and for leaving your mark on many of our hearts. Prayers for the family as they mourn the loss of their loved one. RIP Mr. Smither, you have earned your wings in Heaven!

Mr. Smither was my favorite teacher at SJHS. He smiled, was kind and made learning fun. He and Arlene became my neighbors 10 years ago when I moved to Lionshead in Bradenton. I was blessed to get to know his wife Arlene and visit Mr. Smither again. He will surely be missed by many students, neighbors, friends and family alike. God speed Lou...
