John Barnes Obituary

John Barnes has climbed his last mountain. He ended his life on Sept. 2, 2008, at the age of 58. He was born in Massachusetts on Jan. 25, 1950, to his parents, Josephine and Charles Barnes. He and his older brother Tom lived in New England and Iowa before they moved to Bountiful, Utah, when John was 8 years old.
John spent the majority of his life outdoors. He attended Utah State University to study agriculture. He worked for many years as a farm manager at Black Island Farms in Syracuse, Utah. He loved hunting and hiking and turned his love for wildlife into a career as a wildlife biologist. He spent a number of winters volunteering daily with extreme dedication at a deer feeding station in Hyde Park Canyon.
John is survived by his wife, Terry; his daughter, Jessie; his brother, Tom; and his nieces, Maria and Mary Ellen Escobar, Taylor Patterson, and Brenna Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents.
An informal memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Terry's home, 9 West Center, Hyde Park, Utah, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Stokes Nature Center, http://www.logannature.org, or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, http://www.rmef.org.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.

Terry,
I am so sad to hear of John's passing. I remember your hug when I was widowed and I wish I could give you a hug at this time. Please know that I love you. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you.

Uncle John seemed to know everything about his surroundings - the history, the animal life, the plant life. Spending time w/ him in Cache Valley was educational as well as enjoyable. But if you ever wanted to really see him smile all you had to do was mention Jessie and that grin would appear on his face. Mixture of pride and joy.
I am going to miss him.
Terry and Jessie - I love you both very much and I'm thinking about you.

Terry and Jessie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I have so many wonderful memories of John and his twinkling eyes. He was always so kind and caring. Most of the best memories of my childhood were growing up next door to You and John and helping take care of Jessie when she was first born. May God bless and comfort you at this time.

Terry & Jess, my thoughts are with you at this time. I have many memories of John from my childhood and him sharing his love of the outdoors with me while working with my father. I'll always remember how both Terry and John willingly took me into their home to care for me while I had the chicken pox, because my mom had just given birth to my sister and there was worry of infection. Those acts of kindness are what John was all about. Know that you are forever in my memory, God Bless
