As a devout Christian and believer in his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, Alton is now in his eternal home. He is now surrounded by all the goodness and joy that only comes from our God of the Bible for all eternity. Alton served the Lord as the choir leader for various churches early on in his walk with the Lord. I know for a fact that that he could really belt out a tune since I remember hearing him sing hymns at a few church services at the First Baptist Church of Houston many years ago. He was good, and loud! I can just see him in heaven right now singing at the top of his lungs:
"Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty
who was, and is, and is to come."
Alton and my mom would often talk about problems and issues that might be troubling him. Since my mom passed away in December, I know that they're talking again. This time, there are no problems and no worries whatsoever, only all the goodness and joy that they will be experiencing for all of eternity!
I'll never forget all the times he came home from the Oiler games in the "Luv Ya Blue" era. He was the #1 Oiler fan. After a rare Oiler win, he would come down the driveway we shared as neighbors and hit his "AAOOUUGGAA" horn! We knew the Oilers had won!
Alton had a great idea to set up a basketball goal on the driveway we shared as neighbors. He also built a custom fence backstop that was just below the goal to stop the ball from going in the backyard. Well, Terry Don and I played thousands of basketball games on this court setup and I really appreciate Alton building this and going through all this trouble. Playing basketball out here with Terry Don and our friends really brought a lot of fun to my life and created lasting memories.
I was disappointed that I could not attend his funeral in Houston. However, as a believer in Jesus Christ myself, I know that I will see him again. Thanks Alton, for being a loving and caring neighbor for many, many years.
