Esther ESTES Obituary

ESTES
Esther Estes, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Tim 4:7.
Esther Wood Estes passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Friday, June 3, 2011. She is now rejoicing with those loved ones who have gone before her, especially her dear husband, Charlie. Esther was born on August 8, 1924, in Baltimore, MD, the oldest child of Rev. Enoch and Ruth Nelson Wood. In 1941, she met a handsome soldier from Texas who came to visit her father's church, and after they married in 1945, they made their home in Houston. Esther worked for many years as a secretary for various labor unions in the city. She also used her secretarial skills in different churches and served as secretary/treasurer of HCFWSD #45 in her neighborhood. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was blessed with the gift of hospitality. She and Charles served faithfully for many years at Northside Assembly of God, Glen Oaks Assembly of God, Evangelistic Temple and Healing Waters Fellowship. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and good sense of humor, but mostly as a woman who loved God and wanted to serve Him in everything she did. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ruthie, brothers Paul T. Wood and wife Lenora of Parsonsburg, MD Rev. William H Wood and wife Ann of Stephens City, VA, faithful friend Ron Towe, many other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Monday 5-8 at Earthman Resthaven, and funeral services will be held at Earthman Resthaven on Tuesday, June 7, at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell Nunley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations made to the First Choice Ministries of First Methodist Houston, 1320 Main, Houston, TX 77002 or the charity of your choice.

Ruthie, I am so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of your parents and you. Esther was an elegant lady! I'm certain Robert has met up with her in Heaven and he'll keep an eye on her for you until you see her again!

What a lady and what a legacy. I can still see her sitting in church - whether it be ET or Healing Waters or Hickory Hollow Restaurant. We had alot of food and fellowship. I enjoyed hearing about her divinely inspired meeting with Mr. Charles back during WWII in Baltimore, MD. Her battle is over and she is in the presence of the Lord. No matter how much we miss her - we know she is in alot better company now and will forever be there - visiting with Aaron and his Mom Mrs. Marks, Sister Wilkerson, Paul Ross, Brother Rockeforte, Derek Prince, David Wilkerson and OF COURSE THE LORD! HALLELUJAH!!!!

Ruthie, you were blessed with parents every child yearns to have and certainly no parent ever had a more loving and devoted daughter. Although your beloved mother has 'moved away' and you will miss her, you know that she is happy in her new home.

Ruthie, your mom was like my Houston mom! I love both of you so much! If you ever need to get away for a break, remember you always have a place right here with me! May the angels and martyrs speed her soul to the heart of God! -Judy

Ruthie,
Thank you very much for sharing Mother with me. I always appreciated the way she listened and gave me that motherly advised she knew I needed to hear. Know that I will miss her terribly. You have a sister here always. Although my heart is heavy, I do understand that the Lord has a master plan and I am sure she is voicing her opinion about how things should be done. :)
With loving prayers,
Wanda
