Isaac Dvoretzky Obituary

Isaac Dvoretsky, PhD
1928-2017
A brilliant mind and a warm heart are stilled. Native Houstonian Isaac Dvoretzky, 89, left this world on February 17, 2017.

His 42 years with Shell spanned research chemist to university liaison and included important patents and publications. He contributed to the advancement of science and science education at local, regional and national levels.
His commitment to higher education was recognized by a Meritorious Service Award from Rice University and an Honorary Fellowship from Technion Israel Institute of Technology. He was also renowned in the Jewish community as a lifelong scholar and educator.
Scientific and community interests were balanced by his love of music, through which he met his beloved wife, Connie.
Isaac was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Louis and Edward. Survivors include his soulmate Connie; children Rachel Dvoretzky (Allan Levine), Aaron Dvoretzky (Sharon Spielman) and Rebecca Kristovsky (Gil); sister Sarah Marks (Al); six beloved grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and step-daughters Alexi Holford and Nicole Lockney (Tom). He will also be missed by his longtime caregiver Nery Vasquez.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut Rd., Burial to follow at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 1037 N. Post Oak Rd.

My condolences to Dr. Dvoretsky's family and friends. I knew him through our dental office for many years. He was such a gentleman and always so kind. I can still picture him walking in the door and I can hear him greeting me. The world is a better place with people like him. Rest In Peace dear man.

Isaac was an inspirational leader, a kind soul, a source of wise guidance and an example of how to be of value in this world. As a senior leader in Shell Development Co he did much to guarantee its success.

You influenced many people for the good and will be missed by all who knew you.

Thank you for your friendship.
