Jacqueline Anderson Obituary

Jacqueline Hammett Gaylord Anderson
1930-2016
Jacqueline Hammett Gaylord Anderson passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 3, 2016. She was born on October 12, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia and spent her childhood in the Washington D.C. area. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947 and later attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. While at the University of Maryland she met Midshipman Sidney W. "Woody" Gaylord, Jr., whom she married in 1952. The couple settled in Houston in 1953 and together had three children, Mark, Robert and Alice. Jackie and Woody were happily married for forty years until Woody's death in 1992.
Jackie was lucky in love. In 2001, she married Robert Gordon "Andy" Anderson. Jackie and Andy were constant companions and shared a wonderful life together. They loved to travel and spend time with family and their many friends. Jackie was a woman of unwavering Christian faith, a faithful servant to her Lord, and an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church of Houston, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a docent at Bayou Bend and a member of the River Oaks Garden Club, where she served as Flower Chairman for Bayou Bend. Jackie was a member of the "Supper Club" since its inception in 1953. Jackie was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Jackie had an eye for everything—a quality that brought creativity and class to her many endeavors, including painting, interior design and a successful antiques business. Jackie graciously and generously shared her gifts with the many people whose lives she touched.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Neely Hammett and Arthur Jack Hammett, her sister, JoAnne Huff, and her first husband, Woody. Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Andy, her three children and their spouses: Mark Gaylord and wife Andrea, Robert Gaylord and wife Jennifer, and Alice Gaylord Laguarta and husband Douglas; her four grandchildren: Lauren and Steven Gaylord and Jacqueline and Daniel Laguarta; and two beloved great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her and Andy's loving family: Robert "Buck" Anderson, Jr. and wife Valerie, Andrew Anderson and wife Lona, and Amanda Anderson; grandchildren: Abigail Perry and husband Jared, Hillary Stonger and husband Todd and Olivia Brown and husband Jeffrey; and their beloved great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers include Charles W. Austin, A.B. Herod, Travis C. Traylor, George N. Allen, Ben A. Brollier and Gregory W. Huff.
A memorial service celebrating Jackie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, in Houston, Texas.
The family extends their gratitude to Sheila Edosomwan, Alma Torres, Rosemary Pinkney and the other wonderful caregivers for their outstanding care and comfort.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jackie's honor to one of her favorite charities: St. Martin's Episcopal Church, the River Oaks Garden Club, or Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens.
