Jean Martin Obituary
JEAN S. MARTIN entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 24th. She was born in Warren, PA. on July 15, 1920 to parents William and Alice Snyder. She was a loving wife, mother and finally "Mima", and was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Russell. She never liked the cold weather of Pennsylvania, and ventured down to Texas in 1942 for a two week vacation that never ended. Settling down by the warm breezes of Galveston, She became an extraordinary dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Studios. Better yet though, one of her pupils became her husband, Russell, whom she married in Houston in 1955. The two enjoyed a loving 46 year companionship made complete with their son, Bill. Jean had a wonderful sense of style. She loved her clothes, from her "go go" of the 60's to the silk jackets of today. Also a big Astros fan, she followed the team to the end with an eye or an ear on every game. And how she loved her "Tex Mex", as a plate of guacamole and cheese enchiladas would always put a smile on her face. Jean is survived by her loving family, son and daughter-in-law Bill and Patricia Martin and grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Shelby. Pallbearers will be Steve, Will, and Peter Moriarity, Sam And John Orrell and Robert Tucker. Services will be held Monday, July 28th at Forest Park Westheimer with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the service at 12:00 Noon in the mausoleum chapel. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. William Lent for his special care for both mom and dad, especially his "plain English" explanations. Thanks also to her caregivers of the past couple of years - Aurora Bautista, Pat Garza, the staff at Colonial Oaks - Sugar Land, Avalon Personal Care Home as well as her "guardian angels" on Marlive (you all know who you are). In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to: Alzheimers Association, 2909 W. Holcombe, Houston,TX 77025.
