Johnny Blau Obituary

Johnny Len Blau
1949-2015
A piece of our hearts is missing today, December 9, 2015 as Johnny L Blau was taken home to be with his Heavenly Father after a very private, but hard fought battle with cancer.
Johnny was born on October 30, 1949 at St Josephs Hospital in Houston, TX, as a fifth generation Houstonian to Ira Leonard Blau and Bobbie Beatrice Blau.
Johnny attended Mt Houston Elementary, Northwood Junior High and MB Smiley High School.
As a student at Smiley High School, he was a 3-year Letterman in Football and Track, was voted Senior Class President, Mr. Smiley and was Valedictorian. Johnny was also a member of The National Honor Society.
He graduated with honors from Texas Tech University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Three of his four years at Tech, he was awarded full Academic scholarships. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and he was President of Pi Tau Sigma Fraternity.
His athletic skills allowed him to excel in numerous intramural sports as well.
He fullfilled his military obligation as a Sea Bee in the U.S. Navy where he was Master at Arms Honor Man and recipient of the American Spirit Honor Medal.
Johnny's 37 year career with Houston Lighting and Power/CenterPoint Energy started in 1972 as an Instrumentation Engineer and he retired in 2009 as a Senior Vice President of Business Support Services.
He served on the Board of Directors, Business Advisory Counsel and co-chaired the Goodwill Houston Gala of 2002 with his wife, Cyndi.
He was a member of the Chairman's Club and co-chaired the Community Investment/Allocations Committee for the United Way of Greater Houston/Texas Gulf Coast.
He was a Life Time Committeeman and served on the Calf SCramble Committee for the Houston Lifestock Show and Rodeo.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of Regents Of Texas Chiropractic College and was awarded the prestigious WD Harper for his outstanding leadership skills.
Johnny was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing and boating. He enjoyed all outdoor sports and loved playing his guitar, sharing his playlist music for sing-a-longs with his friends, especially on his boat.
He will be missed by many as a great man of high integrity. Johnny's heart and desire to help others was larger than life.
He is survived by wife Cyndi Warren Blau, daughter Tracie L Blau, son Keaton J Blau, grandson Reid Henry Dean, father Ira "Lennie" Blau, step mother Edna E Blau, brother David G Blau, His wife Pamela, sister Betsy J Blau and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless friends considered family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie B Wood and sister, Bobbie Denise Allen.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the caring support from the nurses and staff of Hospice Plus Houston.
Visitation will be held at 10am December 19, 2015 at Houston Northwest Church located at 19911 State Highway 249 Houston, TX 77070, followed by the Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11am.

Johnny and Ronnie's fishing trip

December 13, 2015

Johnny was a member of my family for over 50 years. I can't begin to tell you about all of his great qualities as a person. I can tell you that in all those years, I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone and I mean anyone! Johnny was a faithful friend. He was very outgoing and generous and contributed to various organizations without expecting anything in return. He loved life and enjoyed the outdoors spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, scuba diving and playing sports. Johnny was the kind of man that you enjoyed being around. He had a great sense of humor when it came time to goof around. Linda and I loved this man and will surely miss him. Our prayers are with his wife Cyndi who faithfully stood by him with his courageous fight with prostate cancer. In the end, the cancer did not win, Johnny won. He passed from this earth with dignity and honor just like the way he lead his life.

There is a void in my heart now that can never be filled. You were not just my son-in-law, you were the brother I never had. The things we liked to do together will never be enjoyed as much without you. Thank you for the love you showed towards me and the wonderful memories. I know you are in a much better place now and would not come back to this old world for anything. I love and miss you Johnny. Pawpaw

I graduated with Johnny and he was a good person then and it seems as he just kept getting better in life. It sounds as he had a good life and was very happy and even though he is not with us here-
he will always be with us till we get to heaven to see him again. All my prayers to the family.
