Patrick Morrissey Obituary

Morrissey
Patrick Thomas Morrissey, passed away peacefully, at home, on December 21, 2010, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Patrick will be remembered for so many reasons by everyone who knew him. His great love of life and the joy he gave to everyone he touched was infectious, and he was the consummate gentleman to everyone he met.

Patrick was born September 29, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan and was the son of Donald and Mary Catherine Morrissey. Patrick is survived and will be greatly missed by his mother; his wife, Chris; his daughters, Jennifer Morrissey Ruggero and husband Peter, and Meredith Megan Morrissey; his son, Michael Thomas Morrissey and fiance Brittani Brady; and his granddaughter, Molly Madison Morrissey. Patrick is also survived by his two sisters, Kathleen McBroom and husband Alan, and Maureen Morgan and husband Craig; and his brother, Michael Morrissey and partner Franc Baliton. Patrick also leaves behind numerous loving family and friends.

Patrick was a graduate of Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, Michigan and Michigan State University. He began his career in the banking industry with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as an auditor and later in liquidation. He lived in various places and met Chris while in San Diego. In 1982, Patrick relocated his family to lay down his roots in Houston, Texas and work for Bank of the Southwest and its numerous successors. In 1993, his longtime friend and colleague Paul Heafy fortunately persuaded Patrick to begin commuting to Oklahoma City from Houston to work for National Loan Investors, LP (NLI) where he later became a partner.

As an avid sports fan, Patrick epitomized the term "good sport". He treated everyone fairly and was generous to a fault. Growing up he played hockey, football and baseball. As an adult, he was a spectator of all sports in all seasons, especially his beloved Spartans and Texans, and loved playing golf with friends. He even became a reluctant tennis and duplicate bridge player to please the love of his life, Chris.

Visitation for Patrick will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday , December 28, 2010, at Forest Park Funeral Home, 18000 I-45, The Woodlands, Texas. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish, 26777 Glen Loch Drive, The Woodlands, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in memory of Patrick Morrissey, to: (1) Sts. What a shock! We were fraternity brothers and good friends at Michigan State. Pat was a perfectly delightful person. I am very sorry for his family.

How can I describe all the years of knowing Patrick... I guess it would be one word... fun! We have had so many memories together, old and new. And, we have been together thru thick and thin, and you always stood by me, too. I have always been grateful for that. Thanks for the Skippy years, the wonderful parties including my Night before Weddding Party, two kids weddings and the many others. I am grateful that I was able to be with Pat towards the end. I will cherish those moments and others forever. I love you Patrick and will never forget you! Cathy and Gary Lundeen, Cody,Rachael and Ryan Hall and Theresa Buckley.

Chris, you captured him perfectly with your words. I will never forget the wry smile or the gleam in his eyes. What a blessing we all shared.

Dear Chris, Jennifer, Michael and Meridith,

My family and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Pat's illness and death. How courageous and thoughtful you were, Chris, to even think to contact your old neighbor in Brandonwood to let us know the sad news at a time when you were overwhelmed with grief. In all the years we knew Pat, he was never without a smile on his face when he greeted us. Our chats as we met at the curb to retrieve garbage cans, or looking for our escaped dogs were gems of light in a typical day. The childhood friendship of Michael and David was very special, and Michael, you felt like a part of our family. When we lost the Morrissey family as neighbors, our street felt empty and lonely. Our hearts feel empty and lonely now as we grieve the loss of such a wonderful man, husband and father. We are so very sad we were out of town and could not attend either service. Offering our condolences in person would have given us the chance to give you all a close hug and share our tears with you. We will be thinking of you all in the days ahead. Pat is in the heavenly arms of our loving God, and his pain and suffering are wiped away. I know he will continue looking after his family from heaven as he did on earth.
With our love, Liz, Ray and family

Patrick and I worked together and were friends for the last 4 years. His energy level, kindness and intelligence were inspiring. He made those around him better people. He was especially encouraging in my career and I will never forget his enthusiasm when I received a promotion. Although short, I appreciate the time I had to work with and know him.

January 3, 2011

Christy and family - I simply am not able to define in words the true sadness I feel regarding Patrick's passing. As you know, Patrick and I share a unique birthday sequence, and our annual phone call with one another on our respective birthdays was a highlight for me as it provided a chance to catch up with one another year by year. While Patrick's death marks a seminal moment in all our lives, he most certainly will never be forgotten, nor will the warmth of his friendship be lost. Yhe family, indeed all of us who knew him, may take solace in knowing that we each now have a very special guardian angel. Gene May

Always a smile and laugh along with that quick wit. That is one of the many things I will remember about Pat. Althought gone pysically, his spirit will always be felt until the day we seen him again. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Pat was my friend. This frIendship was made possible because of ladies' tennis in the 1960 hood, grew over 14 years of golf and spanned many time zones. It included many fabulous memory points and many lessons on how to live a good life. We will miss him until we see him again.

December 29, 2010

Dear Chris, Bill and I were so sorry to hear the news. We think of our friends that belonged to Northgate often. You both were part of the wonderful experience we had while living in Houston. I go back and look at our pictures of tennis events often and Pat was in many of them. Love to you at this difficult time. Bill and Cris Hatcher

Chris and family,
When I think of Pat all I see is that happy, laughing smile that was so infectious. If we were at the same place Pat was, we were having a great time. What a wonderful, rare human being. We will miss him so much as will everyone else. May all the wonderful memories carry you through this very difficult time. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Jen,
I am so sorry for your loss and that I can't be with you right now. I will be praying for you and your family. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

December 28, 2010

Pat was a fabulous "cheerleader dad" all those years, and we always had so much fun at the events, especially the limo ride to the last game. Fun, fun, fun always, not to mention his consistent dignity he showed in every situation. Chris, he treated you like a queen, and the two of you together created such
a beautiful family.
Through your painful sadness and tears, we hope you can still see clearly how he made this world a much better place, and how we all learned so much from his example of how he looked at life, as well as his many other outstanding qualities. We love you all. Tom and Susan Adkins, Houston

Dear Chris and Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss and pray God holds you in the palm of his hand to protect and comfort you all.
As somewhat new neighbors, I did not have the pleasure to meet Pat but got a sense of what a wonderful man he was by looking at all of the photos on this site that were so special.
God Blass you all.

Chris,

I am so sorry for your loss. Pat was one of the nicest guys I have EVER known. Though we didn't see each other often, he acted as though we saw each other everyday. I remember playing tennis and golf with him a few times and he was such a good sport whether he won or lost. It was just fun being with him. And, even though we didn't see each other very often, his passing has already left a void in my heart. I had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about him.

Chrissy, you and your family will be in my prayers for many days to come.

Love,

David

I have known Pat for 17 years and have really enjoyed getting to know him over this period of time. I do not directly know the family members but Pat spoke often of you and was propud of all of you. I know he will be greatrly missed by all he knew and especially the family. It is at times like this I am reminded that God has prepared a room for each of us in his mansion and we can look forward to the time we can all spend eternity together in God's pressence.
